Cigar City & Mikkeller Make A Chocolate Covered Cherry

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) and Mikkeller (Copenhagen, Denmark) have teamed up on a Forest Gump themed brew- Life is Like…. This chocolate covered cherry themed beer is brewed to be just like the candy. Just like the man said… you never know what you’re gonna get.

An imperial sweet stout brewed with cherries and cacao nibs, which is then aged in bourbon barrels. This beer is brewed in collaboration with Mikkeller our generous friend from Copenhagen, Denmark. What you have here is a modest attempt to emulate the experience of biting into a chocolate covered candy. We hope you enjoy it but you never know what you’re gonna get.

Using dandelion greens to bitter a Belgian-style ale blossomed from out brewers collaborating with Red Rock Brewing. This being our sixth interpretation together since 2008. Expect a wonderfully complex ale fermented with wild Belgian yeast and blended with just a touch of w0od-aged beer. Bitterness imparted from dandelion greens and grains of paradise will have you blowing wishes for sips.

Sierra Nevada & Boulevard Bring Back Terra Incognita

After collaborating on Terra Incognito for SAVOR, Sierra Nevada and Boulevard Brewing have decided to give it another go for the public. This brown ale is heavily hopped with 45% of it aging in old wine foudres and 30% in whiskey barrels for nearly 3 months.

The end product is then bottled with Brettanomyces. 5,200 cases will be released throughout Boulevard’s 25 state distribution network. A 2014 version is already in the works to be distributed in Sierra Nevada’s distribution.

“We tried to create a beer that would highlight the strengths of each brewery — for us, our use of wild yeast and barrel aging, and for Sierra Nevada, their hop-centric talent and homegrown ingredients. It turned out so well we felt it was only right to make more and share it.” Boulevard Brewmaster Steven Pauwels

Style: Sour/Wild Ale

NoDa & New Belgium Create Limited Funkaversary

NoDa New Belgium Funkaversary

NoDa Brewing (Charlotte, NC) is hard a work today bottling Funkaversary, a blended sour ale celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Charlotte’s Brawley’s Beverage. It is that decade long commitment to craft beer that has made the Charlotte beer scene thrive.

To celebrate, NoDa Brewing and New Belgium blended two very special beers together to create Funkaversary. NoDa’s contribution is Monk’s Trunk,a Belgian style pale ale they aged in a Chardonnay barrel for a year.  That beer was blended with New Belgium’s sour ale Felix.  There will be only about 500 bottles produced. The brewery tells BSJ it is quite, quite tasty. (no sh!t?)

Philly Beer Week Collab: Manneken-Penn

Brasserie De La Senne Manneken Penn

If you had any doubts before, don’t. Philadelphia IS one of America’s premiere beer cities. Tom Peters (Monk’s Cafe), Chris Wilson (Weyerbacher) traveled to Brussels (Still in Belgium) to brew with Yvan De Baets of Brasseries de La Senne.

Manneken-Penn is a 7.5% Belgo-American Dubbel whose name and label art were inspired by Philadelphia’s famed William Penn statue above City Hall, and Brussels’ landmark Manneken Pis sculpture of a playful naked boy — ahem — relieving himself.  Manneken-Penn was made with oats, molasses and a combination of American and European hops.  It is imported for PBW by Shelton Brothers and will be available both on draft and in 11.2 oz bottles

Style: Dubbel
Availability: 11.2 oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: 5/31/13
