Mikkeller & 3 Floyds Team Up Again

Mikkeller and Three Floyds team up for another crazy collaboration – Bla Spog Else. The name means “blue ghost” and was brewed at De Proef brewery in Lochristi, Belgium.  Bla Spog Else is a blueberry beer aged in oak barrels. Previous versions of the artwork used the term “lambic,” but you’ll see here it isn’t used. Pacman throwback label? I bet the beer just tastes better because of artwork.

Mikkeller and Three Floyds have teamed up before on brews like  BoogoopBarrel Aged Boogoop, and Baller Stout, and Risgoop

Stone’s Newest Collab: R&R Coconut IPA

Stone Brewing Co has teamed up with Rip Current Brewing to collaborate with on home brewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan’s winning Coconut IPA recipe. The collaboration will arrive later this year.

This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Nmkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Gangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

“On the nose, you get lots of tropical fruit–mango, passion fruit, pineapple–with some sweet orange and stone fruit from the hops along with toasty coconut sweetness.” Ryan Reschan /I Winning Homebrewer 1 love the tropical spin that Robert and Ryan added to an already great IPA recipe.” Mitch Steele II Brewmaster, Stone Brewing Co. “The true lest of a beer like this is the balance between the fruity hop and the coconut flavors and, with this one, you feel like you’re drinking a tropical drink on the beach.”

Paul Sangster // Co-Founder/Brewer, Rip Current Brewing Co.

Dominion’s Monk’s Rock The Mic (Pilsner Style)

Dominion Brewing and Dawson’s Liquors are collaborating on Monk Czech, a Czech Pilsner inspired Belgian-style Ale, set to release June 1.

Legend has it this Belgian style ale was first brewed in 1840 using black market malt smuggled out of Plzeň by monks. Recognizing those OGs, this hip-hop-inspired ale gives a head nod to risk-takers and dreamers.  This Brewer/Retailer collaboration utilized Saaz, Tradition, Motueka and Nelson Sauvin Hops and Pilsner Malt, for a crisp, summer beer that sneaks in at 5.2% ABV and 45 IBUs.

Style: Pilsner
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft.
States: Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C.
Arrival: June 1, 2013

If you go:

June 6th at Max’s Taphouse and June 20th at DC 9

Wynkoop Launches Saison Named After Denver Street

Nearly a year in planning, Wynkoop’s Saison de Colfax is now on tap at the Denver-area Cheeky Monk locations and the company’s sister bar, Royal Hilltop in Aurora, CO. Named for Denver, Colorado’s Colfax Avenue.

Saison de Colfax features the wondrous gifts one expects to find in a saison: vibrant tropical, candy and pepper-spice aromas and flavors in a refreshing Belgian beer. But these typical saison gifts arrive with a tan head and a very subtle chocolate/cocoa note, in an almost opaque beer with a deep brownish-black color.

Style: Saison
Availability: Draft only. Denver area

5.8% ABV
