AleSmith Announces 2013 Reserve Beers

Starting January 15th you can begin placing your orders from AleSmith’s 2013 Reserve Beers. This year’s selections will be Barrel Aged Old Numbskull and Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout.

“Barrel Aged Old Numbskull is our award winning American Barleywine Ale matured in premium bourbon barrels for up to one year to develop it’s rich intense flavor profile.  This beer has not been released since 2010.

Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout is our award winning year round Speedway Stout with Kopi Luwak Coffee. Considered one of the world’s most expensive and rare coffee varieties, the beans are specifically selected for their ripeness and quality by the civet, a small jungle marsupial that feeds of the fruit of the coffee cherry. Expertly roasted by San Diego’s Ryan Bros. Coffee leads to an extremely aromatic and exceptionally smooth final product that complements Speedway Stout exceptionally well!

AleSmith has very specific requirements for the ordering and pick up of these rare beers. Only 4 bottles of each beer can be ordered and must be ordered in your name. When picking up you must be able to show ID and no proxy orders will be accepted. Also, all bottles must be picked up between January 19th and March 10th at the brewery or they will be surrendered back to the brewery.

Stone/Two Brothers/Aleman Team Up For Dayman IPA

Following their 2012 Iron Brew Competition, Stone Brewing Co. will be pairing up with Chicago’s Aleman Brewing and Illinois Two Brother’s Brewing to create their 2013 collaboration beer Dayman Coffee IPA. The winning beer recipe is a coffee IPA and will feature coffee beans roasted by Aleman and Two Brothers with the beer itself being brewed at Stone’s headquarters in California.

Jim Moorehouse, Nate Albrecht and Brad Zeller, three pals planning to open a Chicago brewpub under the moniker of Aleman, won first place at last year’s Iron Brew homebrewing competition in the Windy City (judged by none other than Greg Koch,Jason Ebel of Two Brothers Brewing, and celebrated Chicago brewer, designer and author Randy Mosher). Their style-bending IPA artfully married the assertive tropical bite of Citra hops with amazing coffee flavor and aromatics to create something truly unique and exceptional. Serendipitously, Two Brothers recently kicked off a new adventure roasting their own coffee beans, and provided just-in-time freshly roasted lava for the brew. The result is an innovative IPA that’s well balanced and intensely flavored thanks to the felicitous blend of hops and fresh roasted coffee. “

Style: IPA (w/ Coffee)

Mother Earth Silent Night Release [PICS]

2012 marks the 3rd release of Mother Earth Brewing’s Silent Night. The name may sound tame, but the beer is anything but. Silent Night is an imperial stout brewed with Counter Culture coffee, then aged in Heaven Hill barrels for a few months prior to bottling.  Bottles went on sale at 1 pm in small town Kinston, North Carolina, with the party going well into the evening. All three years of the release were on tap too.

Invite friends, stoke the fire, and uncork a bottle of indulgence. Silent Night offers a coffee aroma and the taste of an exceptionally rich malty flavor. Robust yet smooth and black as coal, each sip is a delightful gift. Old man winter gave you just what you were hoping for.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee, Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles.

Our quest to brew the quintessential coffee beer began over a cupping with the coffee gurus from Richmond’s Lamplighter Roasting Company. Their Ethiopia Sidamo coffee was masterfully roasted to highlight the single origin bean’s bright, crisp body and distinctive blueberry undertones, making it harmonize beautifully with our Russian Imperial Stout. May this beer warm your spirits in these brisk winter months.
