Football Rivalry on a New Level with “Oklahoma Suks”

Independence Brewing Co. (Austin, TX) founders, Rob and Amy Cartwright, know how to keep their fellow Longhorns fans happy during one of the largest rivalry football games in the country, University of Texas vs. University of Oklahoma.

In 2006, the brewery released their seasonal beer Oklahoma Suks as an inside joke for Longhorn fans everywhere to gear up for the “Red River Shootout” game.

The annual football game is one of the biggest rivalries in the country, granting the winner bragging rights and a general feeling of superiority for a whole year. Texas fans traditionally wear as much burnt orange as they can, but the Cartwrights have taken it a step further to show their Longhorn spirit, and to help others support the Horns while tailgating.

This week the beer will be released again, in San Antonio, Houston, Austin and Dallas markets, time for the game on October 11th.

Sixpoint Planning 24 Ounce “Silo” Cans

The can population is growing exponentially, and I don’t hear anyone complaining.

Craft breweries have adopted everything from the 12, 16, and the 19.2oz cans. Sixpoint, which already has the slim can, is poised to make a foamy splash with the 24oz “Silo” can.

Artwork has surfaced for a 24oz can design for The Crisp, Sixpoint’s German-style pilsner. For those really bad at math, that’s a full 2 ounces more than the ever popular bomber.

Ball Corporation (One of the largest aluminum can makers) produces a 24oz can, alongside a 25.4oz and 32oz option in the category. The 24oz is seen on the left.
