Baxter Bootleg Fireworks, a Hop Bomb in a Can

Baxter Brewing (Lewiston, ME) will release a new hoppy canned offering this November – Bootleg Fireworks.

The brewery says this beer is intentionally a bit off balanced. It makes sense too, as the beer features 8 different hops, and 4 different dry hops over the course of 2 weeks. The malts are as light as possible to the chunks of hops added to this beer shine.

Baxter Bootleg Fireworks will launch in 16oz cans and draft November 17th.

Exclusive First Look: Red Brick Brewing To Start Canning

Red Brick Brewing (Atlanta, GA) will be spending the rest of the year installing a new canning line. Laughing Skull Amber Ale, is slated to be their first canned offering.

Beer Street Journal met with head brewer Garett Lockhart and Tyler Cates to discuss the brewery’s can plans. The picture above is the first prototype of the cans, they hope to debut in late November, 2014.

Once the canning line is up and running, the new approach will be to can the core offerings (Laughing Skull, Hoplanta, etc) and bottle seasonals and smaller runs.  Although, I would note that Lockhart is thinking about canning other offerings like Sacred Cow Milk Stout, or even a barrel aged offering along the way.

Laughing Skull accounts for about 60% of the core brand sales. The shift to cans could increase that volume even more.

With Red Brick’s canning line addition, the three largest craft breweries (in volume) in Georgia now offer cans. Terrapin Beer Co. launched cans in early 2013, and SweetWater Brewing launched 12oz and 16oz cans earlier this year.

Great Raft Reasonably Corrupt Launching in Cans

Great Raft Brewing (Shreveport, LA) will launch a new can – Reasonably Corrupt, in November. This will be the third year round can offering.

Great Raft Reasonably Corrupt is a black lager, an offering the brewery never expected to give the 365 treatment. A sleeper hit, if you will.

“We never anticipated canning Reasonably Corrupt as a year-round offering, but our fan base has been loud and clear,” said Andrew Nations, co-founder and president of Great Raft Brewing.

While Resonably Corrupt has already been available on draft, six pack cans hit retailers just after Halloween. The brewery commissioned Status Serigraph of Knoxville, Tennessee with typography from DeRouen & Co. of Austin, Texas.

The name? A jab a Louisiana politics.

Style: Schwarzbier
Hops: Fuggle, Hallertau
Malts: Premium Pilsen, Chocolate, Caramel, Munich

Availability: Draft (Current) Cans (November, 2014)
