New Belgium Slow Ride Session IPA Launches Year Round

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) has launched a new, year round session beer, Slow Ride Session IPA. The brewery recognized the need for a hop forward, yet low abv offering in the year round lineup.

“The fun part about making this beer was balancing eight different hop strains into something smooth, bold and sessionable,” said New Belgium Assistant Brewmaster, Grady Hull. “We pitch Cascade, Target, Nelson Sauvin and Centennial hops in the kettle and we dry hop with Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra. It’s amazingly flavorful, and it still comes in at 4.5% abv.”

New Belgium Slow Ride Session IPA is available now in 12oz bottles and draft. Cans arrive in March, 2015.

Hops: Cascade, Target, Nelson Sauvin, Centennial, Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe
Availability: 12oz Bottles, 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round.

New England Brewing Speaks About Gandhi Can Label

The use of a robotic Mahatma Gandhi on New England Brewing’s imperial IPA has garnered some criticism by some in both India and and the United States. The commercial use of his likeness has been found offensive and irreverent by some.

New England Brewing released an apology on their Facebook page over the weekend.

We apologize to any Indian people that find our Gandhi-Bot label offensive. Our intent is not to offend anyone but rather pay homage and celebrate a man who we respect greatly. We take great care in creating a product we hope will not be abused in the manner that Mahatma Gandhi spoke of when referencing alcohol. So many Indian people here in America love our tribute to him. Gandhi’s granddaughter and grandson have seen the label and have expressed their admiration of the label. We hope that you understand our true intent and learn to respect our method and the freedom we have to show our reverence for Gandhi.

The brewery intended it to be a bit of a craft beer tribute to the founder of modern India. Despite Gandhi’s grandchildren expressing positive feelings over the label, others are still not amused.

New England has asked individuals to refrain from debating/arguing the issue on their Facebook page. As of Monday morning, there have been more than 300 responses to the apology. The brewery is not withdrawing the artwork from taps or packaged offerings at this time.

As you can see, things got a little heated.

La Cumbre Red Ryeot Coming to Cans. Special Thanks to Sierra Nevada

La Cumbre Red Ryeot will soon be available in cans. The New Mexico based craft brewery is pretty excited to launch this new offering. In order to do so, the brewery needed to jump a legal hurdle.

Jeff Erway of La Cumbre discovered that Sierra Nevada had already made a beer called Red Ryeot (part of the ongoing Beer Camp Series). Being hooked on the name, Jeff reached out to Sierra’s founder Ken Grossman to inquire about the trademark. Unfortunately, Sierra had already applied for the mark.

Thinking the name was dead in the water, an email arrived from Grossman’s legal team abandoning the mark for La Cumbre. Red Ryeot was officially theirs. A fantastic example of how craft breweries work together.

La Cumbre Red Ryeot is a red rye beer that the brewery has been working on over the past few months. Soon to be available in 16oz cans.

Style: Rye Beer
Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft. Year round offering.
Arrival: TBA
