Ipswich Brewing Available In Georgia

Ipswich Brewing BottlesIpswich Ales is now available for the first time in Georgia.   Mercury Brewing has been brewing the Ipswich lineup on Boston’s North Shore since 1991, one of the oldest in New England.

The beers are initially only available at metro area Total Wines.  3 beers come with the initial launch:

Oatmeal Stout, 7% ABV,  Deep, rich, and malty with hints of chocolate and coffee. It’s what espresso would be if it had the gumption to be beer. We use two different hop additions, specially selected crystal malts, roasted barley, and oatmeal to give it a soft and silky mouth feel. Makes a great dessert. Or meal.  Year round.

Original Ale – English Pale Ale, 5.4% ABV.  Named one of the World’s Ten Best Beers by Wine Spectator Magazine, Ipswich Ale has satisfied discerning craft beer drinkers since 1991. A North Shore classic, Ipswich Ale is a medium-bodied, unfiltered English style pale ale with subtle hoppiness and a smooth malty flavor.  Year round.

Dark Ale – English Brown Ale, 6.3% ABV.

No draft, or 12 oz bottles have arrived at this time.  Recently, Clown Shoes Beers showed up at Total Wine also, the only place in the state.

Leinenkugel Nixing Fireside Nut Brown

Leinenkugel Fireside Nut BrownLeinenkugel’s Fireside Nut Brown Ale is the brewery’s current seasonal.  This nutty brown ale makes an appearance each year from November to February.  In 2012, it won’t.   John Leinenkugel says “we can’t get enough nuts!”   In reality, Leinkugel is changing their lineup some, and bringing new offerings next year.

John says -“hibernating” because the brewery does’t like the term “retired.” Because you never know if they’ll bring it back.  What will replace Fireside?  “We aren’t sure yet, but we have been experimenting with everything from IPA’s to stouts.”  Barrel aging is on the docket for the brewery – who is already experimenting with Barrel Aged editions of Big Eddy.

Lazy Mag Releases More Bourbon Pecan

Lazy Magnolia Southern GentlemanAs Lazy Magnolia begins expanding, they also just recently announced there will be more Southern Gentleman shipping soon.  The brewery has recently purchased more barrels to produce more.

Lazy Mag took their Pecan ale, and aged it in bourbon barrels for nearly 3 months.  (what barrels cannot be disclosed, MS law) What the brewery has to say:

It brings everything that we like about beer and bourbon together in a special way.  The aroma of bourbon fills the nose, the vanilla from the oak rounds out the finish, and the extra months of aging soften and dry out that Southern Pecan we love so much.  In the end, the beer is about as perfect as it can be.

Style: Brown Age (barrel aged)
Availability: Draft only.  Newest batch just released.

4.5% ABV

At roughly 55 IBU’s the hop character is very noticeable but not overpowering and balances with the 7.2% ABV for a slightly sweet, somewhat hoppy, and definitely roasted finish.
