Jailhouse & Max Lagers Create “Partners In Crime”

Glenn Golden of Jailhouse Brewing Company (Hampton, GA), John Roberts of Max Lagers’ (Atlanta), and Chris Collier (formerly of Nantahala) just released a new collaboration- Partners In Crime. The group created a Berliner Weiss, a beer traditionally soured by lactobacillus. Lacto is a bacteria you don’t want freely running around your brewery. (It can sour beers that aren’t supposed to be sour.) Their solution is add lactobacillus to the beer “preboil” and allowed it to sour over night. Viola! The rest of the beers are safe.

Partners in Crime exhibits a dominant wheat beer character with a supporting cast of unique and funky flavors. Our sour mash and lactobacillus additions impart an extra depth described as a lemon and peach fruit with a hint of corn and farmland. The star is the sour notethat brightens the beer and adds a crisp tart finish.

Style: Berliner Weisse
Taste (Per JH): A tart wheat flavor with lemon and peach accents. An earthy farm-like aroma and flavor adds complexity to the beer that finishes with a crisp tartness.

Availability: Draft only

4.5% ABV, 10 IBUs

Summer Beer: Perennial’s Peach Berliner Weisse

Perennial Artisanal Peach Berliner Weisse

There really needs to be more berliner weisse in the world. Or at least in America. Perennial Artisanal Ales can fix that. The tart German style is in safe hands. Warm weather approved. This wheat beer is brewed with midwest peaches.

Our Peach Berliner Weisse is a German-style tart wheat beer that’s perfect for the hot summer months. We violate traditional German beer production methods in every way by adding hundreds of pounds of Midwest-grown peaches to each batch.  We hope you enjoy the irreverence as much as we do.

Style: Berliner Weisse (w/ Peaches)
Availability: 750ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

Dogfish Head Festina Peche & Founder’s Cerise Return

Two fruity offerings have returned.  Dogfish Head Festina Peche, and Founder’s Cerise.

Festine Peche is berliner weisse, brewed with peaches.  4.5% ABV

Festina Peche, since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup. Just open and enjoy!

Founder’s Cerise fruit/vegetable beer chock full of cherries.  53 lbs in fact.  Harvested from Benton Harbor, Coloma, Grand Rapids and Traverse City.  The cherries are added at 5 different stages of fermentation in order to achieve a perfect balance of sour cherry and malt palette.  Cerise has a big malt bill to compliment the cherries, caramel being notable.  Cerise has a sweet, crisp mouthfeel. 6.5% ABV

Both are available in 12oz bottles, and draft.  Early summer seasonals…

Berliner Weisse Next Up in Full Sail’s Brewer’s Share

Full Sail Chris's Summer DelightFull Sail Brewing Company’s future edition of the Brewer’s Share program is a perfect summer style berliner weisse.  Dubbed Chris’s Summer Delight, the series is a chance for the brewmasters to show off, and do some good for charity.

Four times a year we hand the keys to our massively talented brewers and let them throw down.  Whoever comes up with the most insanely delicious new brew gets to share it with the entire beer-geekosphere.  It’s something we call Brewer’s Share.  And what, pray tell, inspired Chris to brew his wheat-o-riffic Summer Delight?  A secret desire to have his cake and drink it too, perhaps?  “I was inspired by my love of summer, actually ” says Chris.  “When I found out we’d be brewing at the beginning of the season, I immediately thought of the perfect summer style – a Berliner Weiss.”

Style: Berliner Weisse
Availability: 22 oz bombers
Arrival: TBA

4% ABV

Proceeds from the beer will benefit the Oregon State University Brewing Science Program.  Oregonstate.edu/dept/foodsci

Night Shift Brewing Releasing Quad, Somer Weisse

Night Shift Brewing (Everett, MA) will be releasing 2 bottles soon, and one chili pepper draft only offering:

QUAD RESERVE — The first beer in our “NSB Reserve Series,” this is a quad ale fermented with brown sugar and shiraz grape juice. We homebrewed this recipe for a while without the Shiraz juice, and it was awesome. Then we added the Shiraz, and it became even better. The Quad Reserve clocks in at 10.5% ABV and sips almost like a burgundy with bubbles. Updates about its initial release are on the way soon (follow us on Facebook and Twitter for immediate info!). In the meantime, here’s the bottle label:

SOMER WEISSE — A tribute to our Somerville homebrewing roots, this is a Berliner Weisse style sour ale brewed with lemongrass and ginger. We really enjoy Berliner Weisse beers in general, but noticed that they’re a little hard to find around here. We also wanted to “shift” the style a bit (typical beers in this category are around 3% ABV), so we cranked it up to 5.3% ABV and gave it some lemongrass and ginger kick. Some might mistake it for a tart champagne or sparkling lemonade, but it’s absolutely beer. And it’s delicious. Like the Quad Reserve, release details forthcoming (hint:Facebook. hint: Twitter). For now, check out the bottle label:

VIVA HABANERA (DRAFT) — This beer has a few people way too excited. Those people may or may not be us. Our recipe man, Rob Burns, let the Cuban half of his roots inspire this beer’s initial recipe. What he came up with was a rye ale brewed with agave nectar and aged on habanero peppers: Viva Habanera (translated from Spanish to English: “Live Habanera”).
