Napa Smith Brewing (Napa, CA) has seen great success with Hopageddon, a barrel aged imperial IPA. The name suits the beer, as this imperial IPA not only wet-hopped, but aged in Chardonnay & Cabernet barrels. Tentatively, the brewery will be putting the complex hop bomb (that combines both beer, and the wine country in which they reside) into bombers.
Hopageddon is an end-of-the-world imperial IPA that defies expectations and induces an intense hop-stupor that will leave you wondering what just happened. At 144 IBUs, Hopageddon glows with a gorgeous fiery orange color and showcases a distinct, full white head. The added character given by the Chardonnay and Cabernet barrels accentuates explosive papaya and lychee flavors along with herbaceous aromas. Chewy, grassy, wet-hop flavors, hints of dried apricot, and impressions of barrel tannins are evident in mutiple layers. The distinct Barrel-hopped flavors and shockwave of bitterness lingers on the palate and leaves hopheads with a Post-ahopalyptic yearning for more.
Style: Imperial IPA (Barrel Aged)
Hops: Chinook, Cascade, Warrior, Columbus, Mt. Hood, Centennial
Availability: Draft. 22oz bombers soon.

About 25th:
The robust dark ale has flavors of chocolate, toffee and vanilla. It’s brewed with generous amounts of pale, caramel and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. Whole natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process. 25th Anniversary Vanilla Doubledog is packaged in a commemorative, 22-ounce bottle illustrated with a design inspired by classic New Orleans wrought iron. This Doubledog brew is a tribute to Abita’s Turbodog, which was originally created as an anniversary beer in 1989. Today, Turbodog is an Abita Flagship brew and sold year-round.
Abita produced around 10 barrels (310 gallons) of this beer. Sold in 7.75 gallon kegs, thats around 40 purported floating around in the wild.
Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged)
Additions: Vanilla Beans
Availability: Draft only. One time brewed.

The bat (or “el murcielago”) had a very important role in the making of this beer. Our winged furry friends were responsible for the pollination of blue agave plants, which of course leads to tequila. That tequila was aged in barrels, and those barrels were eventually emptied and found their way to our brewery. We then Filled those barrels with a high gravity double cream ale. And to give it even more oT a southwestern kick, we added some cumin and lime peel as well. El murcielago, we tip our hat to you. 2011-2012 has been designated by the United Nations as the Year of the Bat. Go to www.batcon.org for more information about supporting these awesome flying guys.
