Victory Golden Monkey in Wine Makes “White Monkey”

Victory White Monkey

Victory Brewing recently announced  they were releasing Red Thunder, the brewery’s Baltic Thunder in red wine in November. There is also a potential for Old Horizontal in bourbon, aka Oak Horizontal. Now become aquainted with White Monkey. You know the base beer as Golden Monkey (a tripel). White Monkey is aged in white wine barrels.

Since his birth in 1997, our beloved Golden Monkey has remained playfully delightful and profoundly satisfying. His soul continues to glow with the wisdom of ages and inspired our own stroke of genius. Restless from his continuous journey to joy,we felt that some quiet time in American oak barrels that once matured white wine would further soothe this ale’s silken soul. After his three-month retreat, Golden Monkey emerged refreshed and invigorated with new character and flavor nuances that only make him more profound, and possibly even more playful. Cheers, The Brewmasters of Victory

Style: Tripel (Wine Barrel Aged)

Founders Bolt Cutter Barleywine Arrives In November

Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, MI) has announced a date for Bolt Cutter, their celebratory 15% barleywine. The beer joins the coveted Backstage Series, alongside the likes of CBS, Curmudgeon’s Better Half & more. It’s a barleywine dry hopped with cascade hops, partial aged in bourbon barrels, partially aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels. It has been bottle maturing since July, 2012.

What’s in a name? The brewery explains:

Years ago,” says Co-Founder, President & CEO Mike Stevens, “when our brewery was located on Monroe, we were defaulting on our loan. Eventually, the bank called and threatened to chain our doors shut if we didn’t come up with the money that we owed them. We had seven days to come up with half a million dollars.” “So I bought a pair of bolt cutters,” says Co-Founder, Vice President of Brand & Education Dave Engbers. “We were determined to keep our doors open and to keep brewing beer, no matter what it took. Luckily, we never had to use them.” Engbers keeps the bolt cutters in his office as a reminder of how far we’ve come and the journey we’ve taken since brewing our first beer in November 1997.

The brewery will hold a ticketed release system from 11/11- 11/16. Bottles hit stores shortly after. Founders hosts an Anniversary Party on November 17th.

Style: Barleywine (Partial Bourbon, Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged)

New Holland Launches Brandy Barrel Charkoota Rye

New Holland Brewing is now shipping Brandy Barrel Aged Charkoota Rye. Charkoota is a smoked doppelbock lager. For this edition, the flying pig spent time resting in brandy barrels.  The result? smokey beer with a boozy, fruity complexity. About regular Charkoota:

Charkoota Rye is a Smoked Rye Dopplebock. An homage to all things Pig, including Porkapalooza and the age-old tradition of Charcuterie, Charkoota Rye’s malty backbone is derived from a blend of rye and four other malts, including malted barley smoked over cherry wood.

Its smoke-forward body is balanced with tones of deep mollasses and caramel, with a crisp, clean lager finish. Delightful by itself, Charkoota is best served with its succulent counterpart, Pork.

Style: Doppelbock (Smoked, Barrel Aged, Brandy)
Availability: 22 oz bombers, Draft
Released: Late September, 2012

7.75% ABV
