Avery Fortuna, the 28th iteration of their Barrel Aged Series, sounds a bit like a margarita.
The American wild/sour ale is aged in tequila barrels with lime zest and salt. The tequila barrels were provided by Suerte Tequila, based in Boulder, Colorado.
As luck would have it, our amigos at Suerte dig our brews as much as we do our tequila. They graciously provided their finest barrels. We filled them and created sour, salty, and citric awesomeness.
Avery Fortuna is estimated to be bottled in May, 2015, available in 12oz bottles.
Avery Brewing’s Barrel Aged Series release #25 is Einzigartig, an American wild ale. This small batch release is brewed with Riesling grape must (freshly pressed juice with skins, seeds, and stems) and aged neutral Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. Neutral wine barrels are older barrels, used to soften wine instead of imparting oak flavors.
Einzigartig mean “unique” in German. Avery produced 116 cases of Einzigartig, and is only releasing 44.
Number 24 in Avery Brewing’s Barrel Aged Series is Spontanea, an American wild ale.
Spontanea is brewed with Cabernet Sauvignon grape must and aged in Cabernet Savignon wine barrels. An interesting fact about Spontanea, is that no extra yeast was added to the beer. The yeast and bacteria naturally occurring on the grape must did all fermentation.
We gave our yeast a vacation, The critters on the skins of the grapes did all the work on this beauty! Completely spontaneous fermentation!
Avery Spontanea was bottled in October in 12oz bottles.
The 23rd release in Avery Brewing’s Barrel-aged Series will be Antonius’ Carmen Sour Ale. Aged in Madeira wine barrels.
On Sunday, October 12th, the brewery releases No. 21, Black Eye Imperial Stout. For those keeping track, 5 Monks Barrel Aged Belgian-style Quintuple Ale is among the most recent in the series, along with Antonius’ Carmen.
For Dad, And his love of silly songs and sayings.
Avery Antonius’ Carmen will be available in 12oz bottles.
Avery Brewing Company’s (Boulder, CO) 21st addition to their Barrel-Aged Series is Black Eye Imperial Stout. A bold 18.82% ABV rum barreled stout.
Black Eye will release at a special rare beer event on October 12th at Avery’s tap room. Other beers include: Bad Karma, Bad Apple, Tequila Sour, Raven, The Beast ’08, The Beast ’12, Salvation ’12, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Czar, Eremita IV, Eremita I.
Avery Brewing’s (Boulder, CO) Barrel Aged Series rolls on with the 22nd addition, 5 Monks.
This edition is described as bigger and bolder than a quad, a sextuple of sorts. To sound less profane they went another way with the description. This bigger than life quadrupel is brewed with turbinado sugar and dark Belgian candi sugar and aged in bourbon barrels.
So yeah, it’s MUCH bigger and bolder than a quad. But the term “sextuple” seems inappropriate alongside a congregation of monks – so quintupel it is!
Avery 5 Monks will be released in 12oz bottles in June, 2014.
Avery Brewing’s barrel aged wild ale series looks like to have a busy 2014. The 18th offering Opuntia, has just been released. Right on its heels is #19 Rufus Corvus, a blend of orphan barrels from the brewery.
Meet #20, Obscuro & Nimbasus, a “tropical” sour ale. This release is a rum barrel aged wild ale brewed with ginger and key lime. The rum barrels are sourced from Bermuda.
For Edward Bulwer-Lyton. And Snoopy. Especially Snoopy. Oh, and certain fabled rum distillery in Bermuda!! Thanks dudes!! A brilliant tropical sour aged in “the” appropriate rum barrels for a more authentic experience.
Avery’s barrel aged beers are package in 12oz bottles, and released at the brewery.
