Atlanta Has Two Beer Tour Companies

Atlanta now has two craft beer tour companies to choose from.  6 months ago, it had zero. Atlanta Beer Tours and Atlanta Brews Cruise both started operating in May, 2012.  The rates range from $45 – $60 dollars.  Bob Townsend writes about it in his most recently article for the AJC.

…That the tours suddenly popped up around the same time is something of a coincidence and a confirmation that Atlanta was ripe for this kind of business, agree Brews Cruise owner Sandy Roberts and Beer Tours owner Dan Fontaine.

Jailhouse Debuts Prison Camp Pils

Last evening, Jailhouse Brewing (Hampton, GA) released their 14th beer, Prison Camp Pils. Brewery founder and brewmaster Glenn Golden stepped aside and let the employees brew this release – part of the Inmate Hooch Series.  The employees took the brewhouse to create an easy drinking, hot weather brew as Atlanta temperatures look to hit 100 degrees this week.

The entire jailhouse staff and its fans hit Taco Mac Metropolis to celebrate the release.  The story of Pils goes a little something like this – “While the Warden was out on the links, the inmates broke out of their cells and into the brew house. They framed up a recipe for an American Pilsner: crisp, clean and inviting.”  Above: BSJ, Ale Sharpton and the Jailhouse inmates.

The result?  A damn drinkable pilsner (especially for summer.) Really, clean & crisp. Not easy to stop drinking once you start.

Style: Pilsner
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft.

5.5% ABV, 25 IBUS

Green Flash Looks To Build East

Green Flash Brewing just launched in Georgia and Alabama in the past week.  One of the most interesting nuggets shared with me after meeting the crew was that the brewery wants to build on the east coast.  Get this – NOT Asheville. Well, not first anyway.  Georgia could potentially be on the list. Thanks to the stylings of Craft Beer Business Daily (paid subscription only) it is revealed that the brewery is looking to spend close to $12 million.

Louisiana is the brewery’s next distribution stop.  Start your speculating.
