SweetWater Motorboat Returns (Not Retired)

Update: Mis-read the PR below… Motorboat is here through October. A play on words that went wrong…

ATLANTA (August 6, 2012) — Motor Boat is cruising on back into SweetWater’s Catch and Release lineup, dropping anchor this August. The slap-you-silly brew is SweetWater’s titillating version of an Extra Special Bitter (ESB), naturally built for speed and comfort…for the old sailor in everyone.

Motor Boat is brewed with Cascade, Sterling and US Golding hops, and dry-hopped with Cascade for a little extra action. Big in body, this unfiltered beer boasts complex malt character and finishes with 42 IBUs and 5.6% ABV.

The brew will hit shelves throughout the Southeast in mid-August. It will be featured in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and will be flowing on tap at bars and restaurants.

This decorated brew has a proven track record with back-to-back silver medal wins at the Great American Beer Festival. So batten down the hatches, prepare your party barges and drink up while you can, ‘cause Motor Boat will be sailing off into the sunset this October.

Sad to see it go? Don’t fret. SweetWater’s got your back with the debut of its newest addition to the year- round lineup, a rye India Pale Ale (IPA) just around the corner. LowRYEder has been creeping out on select draft taps throughout the summer, but this flame-throwin’ IPA will make its official debut in six-packs on shelves throughout the Southeast early this fall. Stay tuned for more info on the brew and details about how the SweetWater folks are hopped up on hydraulics to make this brew’s launch party larger than life.

Terrapin All American Pilsner Returns

Terrapin All American

In honor of this years presidential election, Terrapin Beer Co’s All American Pilsner returns from retirement. This year’s batch is much bigger than ever before.  Speaking of beers out of retirement, you have an opportunity to vote to bring a Terrapin beer back from retirement.

The All-American Imperial Pilsner is the beer that has inspired all this democratic fervor at Terrapin. The AAIP began its career as one of the original members of the Monster Beer Tour. Originally released in 2005 as a 7.5% Pilsner with 75 IBUs, it was brewed withall American malts, hops, yeast, and water. Rich, malty, and with an extreme hoppy profile, this was truly a Terrapin-style Pilsner. The plan to bring the Pilsner back for the Presidential Election was born when the AAIP was retired. It softened the blow to the beer’s many fans to know that it was not gone forever… just on hiatus! It’s back now once again; representing classic German style but with anAll-American flair!

Style: Imperial Pilsner
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft.

8.6% ABV, 80 IBUs

Red Brick 17th Anniversary Blending [PICS]

Red Brick Brewing is on the eve of the 3rd barrel aged anniversary release. Last week, BeerStreetJournal was on site at the brewery when Dave McClure and his brewing team in Atlanta, Georgia pulled the next Brick Mason Series brew from the the barrels. The 2012 release marks 17 years, and is a brown ale aged in Jim Beam barrels. Before the blending, all 72 barrels were placed in the cooler overnight. The next day, the barrels were forklifted two at a time to the tank area for blending. Every barrel had to be tasted to ensure the flavor quality before blending.

You see below, each barrel is opened, sampled then pumped (with CO2) into the brite tank.  Red Brick 17th Anniversary has been bottled and will start shipping over the next week.

Style: Brown Ale (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Limited Draft.
