Bruery Terreux Souren, an 8 Wired Collaboration

Bruery Terreux Souren, a new collaboration with New Zealand’s 8 Wired Brewing launches August 5th.

Soren Erikson of 8 Wired made a pit stop in The Bruery’s home of Placentia, creating a “California style” sour beer. The base is a Belgian-style golden ale, pinot noir grapes. Bruery Terreux Souren eventually came to rest in oak barrels.

Souren is named for our pal Søren who runs the show down in the far-off land of New Zealand at 8 Wired Brewery. Taking the long way home after a trip to the States, Søren and his team stopped off in Placentia for a day of brewing, and we created a very California-style sour beer together. Starting with a Belgian-style golden ale base, Pinot Noir grapes were added and the beer was sent to rest in barrels at Bruery Terreux. Over the year, the complexities grew and this grapey, funky, spicy beer was born. Half Kiwi, half American, this one has a rather handsome accent.

Bruery Terreux Souren is available in 750ml bottles. First released to Hoarders and Reserve Society members, then limited distribution.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (w/ Pinot Noir Grapes. Oak Aged.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles. Limited Release.
Launch: 8/5/15

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Citrus Returns (New Recipe)

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Citrus has made a return to shelves. The sour ale’s recipe has been tweaked for its 2015 summer release.

The base beer is a sour blonde ale aged in wine barrels, nuanced by Buddha’s Hand citrons, plus yuzu and blood oranges from San Francisco’s Hamada Farms.

Hand-chopped and zested fruit was added to the beer, which has been allowed to barrel age since the winter citrus harvest, creating a refreshing sour ale that highlights the natural tartness of fresh citrus.

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Citrus is available in 375 milliliter bottles.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (w/ Buddha’s Hand, Yuzu Fruit, Blood Orange. Wine Barrel Aged.)
Availability: 375ml Bottles
Return: July, 2015

Inside Wild Heaven’s First Bottled Sour, Dionysus [VIDEO]

Wild Heaven Craft Beers (Decatur, GA) has just released Dionysus, their first bottled sour offering/second barrel aged offering.

Wild Heaven Dionysus is actually a blend of six different beers, as head brewmaster Eric Johnson explains in the video above.

Instead of being one sour beer, Johnson created six, carefully soured and chosen to be Wild Heaven Dionysus. The base is Eschaton an oaked Belgian-style quadrupel. Three other beers, fermented with three different strains, aged in Bordeaux barrels, were then blended into the base. Tack on two more sour, barrel aged offerings and this cuvee is born.

Wild Heaven Dionysus is available in now in Georgia in 750 milliliter bottles. It follows Civilization, a tequila barrel-aged barleywine.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (Barrel Aged. Tequila. Wine Aged.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles. Limited Release.
Release: July, 2015

Green Flash Natura Morta Cherry, a Cellar 3 Offering

Green Flash Natura Morta Cherry takes aim at the brewery’s Cellar 3 Series. The San Diego based brewery opened a new barrel aged location/warehouse/tap room dubbed ‘Cellar 3′ this year, from which beers like Flanders DriveSilva Stout, and Natura Morta Plum are a part.

Green Flash Natura Morta Cherry‘s base is a saison, aged in oak vats with Brettanoymces yeast, then aged in red wine barrels with cherry puree.

This refined evolution of our Belgian-style Saison is foudre-fermented with Brettanomyces, then aged in red wine barrels with dark sweet cherry puree. After six months, an effervescent crimson ale is released, offering notes of ripe stone fruit and barrel drawn tannins. Retaining hints of earthy wild yeast, Natura Morta Cherry finishes like a fine Beaujolais.

Each Natura Morta release will contain a difference fruit to nuance the wild ale. Green Flash Natura Morta Cherry will be available in 750 milliliter bottles.
