Red Hare Barrel Aged Sour Whabbit Wheat, a can potential

Red Hare Barrel Aged Sour Whabbit Wheat is on the docket by the Marietta, Georgia based brewery.

Whabbit Wheat, an American wheat ale brewed with apricots and peaches, debuted as a seasonal release in spring of 2015. While the label makes no direct mention of the fruit, we are making an assumption.

Red Hare Barrel Aged Sour Whabbit Wheat is aged in Chardonnay barrels with both Brettanomyces yeast and Lactobacillus souring bacteria.

This will be the third offering in the brewery’s Rare Hare Series. The brewery has not yet announced this beer.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (Wine Barrel Aged)

Creature Comforts The Curious No. 8 debuts July 10th

Creature Comforts The Curious No. 8 will release on a special tour on July 10th.

This release arises from the brewery’s Emergence project. The project features a tart blonde ale, that was fermented with at least four strains of the brewery’s house yeast, rested in wine barrels. Variations of that release spawned The Curious No. 6 (aged on peaches).

To create Creature Comforts The Curious No. 8, the brewery selected two wine barrels from the base Emergence beer, chosen for the strong berry character. Blueberries from Rhonda’s Blueberries in Union Point, Georgia were added to those select barrels.

Chris and Rhonda grow the best blueberries we’ve ever tasted, and the blueberries picked for this beer are Ochlockonee blueberries. You can try these at the Athens Farmers Market where Rhonda’s blueberries are sold.

Creature Comforts The Curious No. 8 will be available on a special tour at the brewery in Athens, Georgia on July 10th. Attendees will get to try The Curious No. 7, food from Savory Spoon, and two bottles of No. 8. Tour starts at 1 pm.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Blueberries. Wine Barrel Aged.)
Availability: 16.9oz Bottles. Brewery release only.
Debut: 7/10/16

Wicked Weed Bombadile returns to Canvas Series

Wicked Weed Bombadile, available once in the past, will soon return to the Canvas Series.

The base farmhouse ale has been fermented with Brettanomyces yeast, and fresh Florida grown strawberries in a French oak foeder.

The Florida forest is a fight for life from undergrowth to treetop. The woodland encircles itself, squelching sections as others grab hold and flourish. The live oak observes this scramble from its perch of power and permanence. Amidst the hurricanes and heat waves, the alligators and oranges, emerges the true crimson crown of our southern peninsula. Ripened and radiant from the Florida sunshine, the strawberry is king of this bountiful land. Bombadile is a Brettanomyces farmhouse ale fermented with a half pound per gallon of ripe Florida strawberries and delicately aged in a French oak foeder.

Wicked Weed Bombadile has beautiful artwork update in time for this return. Available in 500 milliliter bottles.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Strawberries. Oak Aged.)
Availability: 500ml Bottles
Return: July, 2016

Triple C Kind of a Wild Deal, the breweries first wild

Triple C Kind of a Wild Deal is the Charlotte, North Carolina based brewery’s first bottled wild ale.

The base beer for Triple C Kind of a Wild Deal is an imperial honey wheat ale, that was aged in bourbon barrels. Later in the process, the barrels were pitched with Brettanomyces Bruxelles yeast, plus a healthy dose of blueberries.

But wait – there’s more. There are actually three other bourbon barrel variations of the beer coming, including Ginger Boysenberry, Blood Orange and Strawberry.  All three will see limited distribution.

Not done yet. Triple C is doing yet another variation in rum barrels with mango.

This bad boy rolls in late to the party at an impressive 9.2% ABV, obnoxiously triple parks his Miata, and immediately begins downing drinks. After grabbing your girlfriend’s butt and double dipping the guac, you decide it’s time for him to go. Upon approach, you unfortunately notice his silk robe is a few inches too loose, you lose it and scream “You’ve got to go”. He shakes away from your grasp and exclaims “I don’t know how to put this, but… I’m kind of a big deal!”

Triple C Kind of a Wild Deal will be a 22 ounce bottle offering in late July, 2016.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Blueberries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: Late July, 2016

Carolina Bauernhaus June Princess marks the brewery’s first bottle [PICS]

Carolina Bauernhaus June Princess is officially the Anderson, South Carolina based brewery’s first bottle release.

The wild and sour focused brewery headed up by Keston Helfrich and David Thorton opened in December of 2015. Their lineup is almost 100% sold in their downtown taproom.

Carolina Bauernhaus June Princess goes head to head in our book for the best sour in their young repertoire (the other being 18 Mile.) The brewery released just shy of 300 bottles of the beer today, June 28th. Last week, Beer Street Journal spent some time with the brewery hand labeling and waxing each of the bottles. (Props to my wonderful mother who doesn’t drink beer, but made everyone lunch…)

Our native fermented sour rye ale brewed with North Carolina grown pilsner and wheat malts. This hazy gold beer was fermented in regional Tempranillo barrels and aged on local apricots and locally harvested June Princess nectarines from Clemson’s fruit research farm. The beer is fermented with a blend of SouthYeast Labs N1 strong ale yeast and native lactobacillus along with a few Brettanomyces strains. This fruit forward beer is balanced by a bright acidity and rounded out by an oaky barrel character.

Carolina Bauernhaus June Princess is a 750 milliliter bottle limited offering.

Style: America Wild/Sour Ale (w/ Nectarines, Apricots. Wine Barrel Aged.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles
Release: 6/28/16
