Buying a beer on minimum wage can be quite costly. Especially if you are a minimum wage worker in Georgia. (The country.)
Quartz’s Richie King composed an infographic using two sets of data. First, the average price of domestic draft beer in various countries, as complied by Numbeo, a crowd-sourced database. The second, the minimum monthly wage data from the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Crossing the two data sets, yields this sobering infographic.
Georgia tops the world with a little over 15 hours to afford one beer. Bangladesh (13.4) and Libya (7.5) finish second and third. There’s no prize for this finish.
In contrast, Americans and Canadians earn a beer every 20 minutes. Puerto Ricans earn a beer every 12 minutes.
