Elevation Raises ABV of Beer To Legally Sell It

Elevation Engel Weisse

Laws surrounding alcohol are tricky bitches. Just ask Elevation Beer Co in Poncha Springs, Colorado. Elevation tells us there will be a small tweak to the upcoming berliner weisse aka Engel Weisse┬áthat will arrive later this month. The new release couldn’t be sold in liquor stores in Colorado if it’s 2.5% ABV. Why? The state has a law preventing it.

Colorado liquor stores cannot sell beer under 4%, stemming from an antiquated Prohibition-era law. Over the past few years, attempts at changing this legislation have failed. So, the Elevation crew went back into the brewhouse and created a stronger version. Welcome to 2013.
