Odell Brewing Releases New Four Pack

It’s Mountain Standard Time!

Odell Brewing Celebrates the Season with New Four Pack

Fort Collins, CO. — On November 5, 2011, Odell Brewing will celebrate the return of darker days with the arrival of Mountain Standard Double Black IPA. This year, the brew returns as a four pack offering.

Named for the time zone in which the brewery resides, Mountain Standard Double Black IPA features hops grown on Colorado’s western slope. In late August, the brewery production team ventured west to hand select the hops used. Cascade and Chinook varietals present a robust hop aroma and essence that complements the rich and roasty malt backbone.

According to the Draft Magazine review, “this brew’s enduring malt character and citrus hops illustrate how the two ingredients can find equal footing, even in a bold version of the emerging style.”

Odell Brewing will host a “Mountain Standard Bash” on November 5th to kick off the brew and celebrate Colorado’s ski and snowboard season. The outdoor event begins at 6 p.m. and will feature samples of the brew, live music, food trucks, a variety of local ski and snowboard purveyors, and a screening of the Teton Gravity Research film, Under the Influence. The brewery will also raffle a custom Odell Brewing snowboard by Oz Snowboards with proceeds benefiting the CSU Snowriders.

Mountain Standard Double Black IPA will be available November — early spring in the brewery’s ten state distributor region.

Founded in 1989, Odell Brewing was started by Doug Odell, his wife Wynne, and his sister Corkie. Twenty-one years later, the culture of family and collaboration still thrives fostering a brewery full of beer-centric people. It is this passion for beer that inspires Odell Brewing to create quality, hand-crafted, innovative brews. In 2010 the brewery completed its fourth expansion, adding a wood-aging cellar, a 750 ml bottling line, and a 76 kilowatt photovoltaic system capable of providing 25% of the brewery’s peak energy demand. As a regional craft brewery, Odell Brewing is committed to serving the communities in which it distributes by sourcing local raw materials, and through its charitable giving program known as Odell Outreach. Odell Brewing was recently named a “Top Company of 2010” by ColoradoBiz Magazine and is an award winning brewery, nationally and internationally: 2011 Great American Beer Festival® – gold medal for Friek. 2010 North American Beer Awards — gold medal for Woodcut No. 3. 2009 BrewNZ Awards — gold for 5 Barrel Pale Ale. 2008 World Beer Cup® — gold for IPA. 2007 Great American Beer Festival® — gold medal for IPA.

Peakskill Brewery Gets New Brewmaster

PEEKSKILL, NY- The Peekskill Brewery is pleased to officially announce Jeff O’Neil as their Brewmaster effective November 1, 2011. He recently announced his departure from Ithaca Beer Co. after nine years. O’Neil is a multiple awardwinning brewer who most recently received a silver medal at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival. Under his direction in 2008, Ithaca Beer Co. received the honor of the F.X. Matt Cup as New York State’s Best Brewery.

“Chief” is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, a member of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London, England and the Vice President of the Master Brewers Association of America- District Western New York. He began his brewing career in the 90s in the San Francisco Bay Area at the 20 Tank Brewery, Gordon Biersch, Jupiter Brewing and Drake’s Brewing, before moving to Ithaca Beer Co. in the Finger Lakes region of New York in 2002.

On his decision to leave Ithaca he says, “I’m moving away from a bigger production model for this awesome opportunity to get really creative and have an intimate connection with those drinking the beer. This is a smaller project but it’s still accessible because of the close proximity to New York City. I’m thrilled for the chance to work with the Berardis and Chef Sean Corcoran, and everyone should expect amazing things to come from Peekskill from here on out.  As my idol Steve Martin once said, ‘Let’s get small.’”

O’Neil’s style complements Peekskill Brewery’s mission to bring hand crafted American beer and innovative pub food to the Hudson Valley region. “Having one of the most talented brewers in the country join our team is beyond exciting. Jeff’s skills and experience will further our journey in being a culinary destination and ultimately the premier brewpub on the East Coast,” said Peekskill Brewery owner Keith Berardi.

Breakside Brewery Releasing Seasonals

PORTLAND, OR — Breakside Brewery recently claimed a silver medal for its classic Irish-style Dry Stout at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival competition, the largest national beer competition recognizing the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 83 beer-style categories were announced October 1 at the 30th annual Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The 2011 Great American Beer Festival competition winners were selected by an international panel of 169 expert judges from record number of 3,900 entries received from 522 U.S. breweries. The Breakside brewing team of Ben Edmunds and Sam Barber are also excited to announce the release of several new brews for October as well as the return of one of their popular past beers.

Today, the brewery releases its Dark Mild, a traditional low alcohol brown ale. Tapping later this week will be a Farmhouse Golden designed for St. Jack Restaurant (2039 SE Clinton). This blended brew uses a persnickety French saison yeast strain and was partially fermented on fresh tarragon. The beer is the second in the series of collaboration beers that Breakside began in August with some of Portland’s top chefs. The beer will be available both at the brewery and at St. Jack.

Later in the month, expect to see a traditional English IPA and a Belgian-style beer called Ambrée, a malty red ale made with elderflower and elderberry. Returning from the vault of ‘beers of the past’ is Breakside’s Strong Northwest Saison. Originally brewed with the staff of Saraveza, this beer is a hybrid of a French saison and an American-style double IPA.

All of these beers will be available throughout October at Breakside’s pub as well as at select beer bars and restaurants around Portland.

Saint Arnold Santo, October 20th

(Houston, TX) — Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today announced its newest year-round beer, Santo, will be released on October 20, 2011. Originally planned for September, the release of Santo was delayed after the initial batch was tasted and the brewers felt there was something missing. After modifying the mash temperature and replacing the wheat malt with Munich malt, the brewers believe they have created the light, refreshing yet dark and flavorful beer they were after.

It is the second major new brew to be introduced by Saint Arnold in October, following closely on the heels of Saint Arnold Pumpkinator, which will be released on October 13th.

“When we set out to create Santo, the idea was to create the beer we always wished we would get when we ordered a dark Mexican lager to go with our enchiladas,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “While we were a little embarrassed about announcing that we decided to dump our first batch, we are happy with the decision, especially given the beer that we are ready to release now. Our brewing team has been thoroughly enjoying this new version. We haven’t waited for the release date to tap some for ourselves.”

Santo is a black Kölsch. It is light in body and dark in color. Despite Santo’s dark appearance, the beer maintains other characteristics of a true Kölsch. Saint Arnold uses the same special Kölsch yeast — an ale yeast that ferments at almost lager temperatures — that is used in Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer. This contributes to Santo being light bodied and floral even though it has a distinctive dark malt flavor.

Santo is brewed using pale two-row and pils malted barley, a dash of Munich malt and an addition of black malt. Saint Arnold uses Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, added to the brew kettle in four separate cycles to create a delicate flavor and aroma. It has an original gravity of 1.045 (11.4° Plato), bitterness of 17 IBU and alcohol content (by volume) of 4.6 percent.

Santo will be available on tap and in 12-ounce bottles sold in six-packs and cases throughout Texas starting on October 20, 2011.

Santo is the sixth year-round beer from Saint Arnold. It joins Saint Arnold Amber Ale, Saint Arnold Brown Ale, Saint Arnold Elissa IPA, Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer and Saint Arnold Weedwacker in the regular lineup.

More On Dogfish Head’s Faithfull Ale Release

As a Pearl Jam and Dogfish Head fan, I can’t be more excited to hold a bottle in my hand.  Here are some more details on the availability of the upcoming release of Dogfish Head Faithfull Ale. Cheers!

As with many of our new beer releases, we’ve had a lot of interest in when and where folks will be able to grab & enjoy Faithfull Ale. Here’s what we can share at this point.

Ideally, we will sell this beer in all 27 U.S. states in which we currently do business — but that may not happen. We have applied for state approval in all 27 of those states (full list here). For a variety of reasons, some states may not approve this beer for sale. Some may only approve draft sales. That is all out of our hands. Since this is a brand-new release, we only recently applied to these states – but approvals have already begun rolling in.

Once we get approval from a state, Faithfull Ale will be added to the next outgoing order for each wholesaler. This means that the beer will be leaving our Milton, DE brewery in waves over the next few weeks. Once it travels to a wholesaler in a particular state, it will then need to travel to retailers throughout their sales territory. We cannot tell you exactly which day it will appear on the shelves in your area (assuming you are in one of the 27 U.S. states where we do business). We do not plan to export any of this beer outside of the U.S.

Beginning Wednesday, October 19th we will beging selling Faithfull Ale from our brewery Tasting Room in Milton, DE and our brewpub in downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE. Here’s how that will happen:

Sales from the Brewery Tasting Room in Milton, DE will begin at 11am on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Bottles of Faithfull Ale will retail for $12.50, and there is a 2-bottle-per-person limit.

Sales from our to-go kiosk at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE will begin at noon on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Bottles of Faithfull Ale will retail for $12.50, and there is a 2-bottle-per-person limit.

We will not reserve, hold or maintain a list for this beer. Faithfull Ale will be available first-come, first-serve from our brewery & brewpub. We have no idea how long our supply will last.

Although we are keeping some of the batch to sell from our brewery & brewpub, the vast majority of this beer will be sold through our wholesale and retail partners. Once the beer begins hitting the retailers and as the wholesalers update their sales data with our database, Faithfull Ale will appear on our Fish Finder. Please note that the database shows where our beers have been delivered to retailers in the past 60 days. The Fish Finder cannot show if it is still in stock, so it is always best to call & confirm first before travelling any significant distance in search of a beer.

We’re tried to answer any and all questions here. There are probably some we haven’t addressed (we’ll add to this article if necessary). We’ve been getting lots and lots of calls, emails, posts and tweets about Faithfull Ale. If we’ve missed replying to yours, we’re sorry.

And in keeping with the music theme, we also recently announced we’ll be re-releasing batches of the Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew and Robert Johnson-inspired Hellhound On My Ale. Both of those beers will begin shipping to wholesalers beginning with orders next week. You’ll be able to find them in stores over the next few weeks as well.

Thanks for all your interest in our beers, we hope you enjoy ‘em. Cheers!

Stone Announces Citruille Celeste de Citracado

Escondido, CA | October 17 — Stone Brewing Co. announces its newest collaboration beer available beginning today and rolling out in select markets across the country over the next few weeks. Stone Brewing Co.’s Steve Wagner and Mitch Steele worked with The Bruery‘s Patrick Rue and Tyler King (Placentia, CA), as well as Elysian Brewing Company‘s Dick Cantwell (Seattle, WA) to develop Bruery / Elysian / Stone La Citrueille Céleste de Citracado, an amber ale brewed with pumpkins grown on Stone Farms, yams, rye, toasted fenugreek, birch bark, and lemon verbena.

“All of us are kind of known for big, imperial beers, and the fact that we came together to make this mellower pumpkin beer… I think it was very restrained and dignified of us,” jokes Rue. “And I think we brought some really interesting spice additions to the table.”

The eclectic mix of ingredients was selected to introduce a decidedly different spin on traditional pumpkin beers. “The taste starts with citrus and herbal notes, but then a very smooth roasted malt character comes into play,” Steele explains. “The yam and pumpkin make their appearance on the finish, with some Eastern-influenced spiciness and trace maple notes from the toasted fenugreek, combining with hints of birch. This is no pumpkin pie beer. No cloves. No nutmeg. No cinnamon.”

Stone Brewing Co. President Steve Wagner had been tossing the idea around for a pumpkin beer with Elysian Brewing Company for over a year. Elysian, well known for conjuring up an impressive variety of pumpkin beers as well as hosting the annual Elysian Great Pumpkin Beer Fest, was quick to come on-board and loved the idea of working with The Bruery, which is highly respected for its innovative beers including Autumn Maple (made with “a lot of yams”).

“That’s the great thing about collaboration beers,” explains Cantwell. “Everyone brings their own strengths and awareness to the project.”

“This is one of the more unique beers I have ever been involved with,” says Steele. “A very cool beer, and I toast the creative minds of Patrick Rue and Dick Cantwell for their willingness to put this recipe together with us.”
