SweetWater Releases Danktoberfest (PR)

SweetWater’s first true lager, a high gravity Oktoberfest-style brew, promises to straighten your schnitzel

ATLANTA (September 28, 2012) — SweetWater’s devilishly talented brewers are at it again. Just in time for a fall release, the boys have banded together to brew the first true lager style beer to come from the South’s second largest craft brewer. Danktoberfest, a high gravity Oktoberfest-style brew, is the latest creative brain-child to come from the brewery’s infamous Dank Tank series.

This full-bodied lager delivers a malty taste and bready aroma, packed with zesty hops and huge amounts of heat.  Weighing in at a whopping 8.5% ABV, Danktoberfest is brewed with German malts and hops to include: Pilsner, Munich, Cara Munich, Aromatic, Dark Munich malts; and German Perle and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops.

Danktoberfest will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles and hit shelves in select locations starting the first week of October. Samples will also be available on draft at SweetWater’s Tasting Room on select tour dates. Fans should act fast and save some for the cellar. Mr. Dankenshnitzel won’t last long.

“We are excited to be able to break through our ‘ale wall’ and get our hands dirty with some serious lagering,” said SweetWater Head Brewer Nick Nock.  “Carrying on the Oktoberfest tradition, we used fine German malts and hops, while adding in our own dankness to give it a classic SweetWater spin.”

SweetWater’s Dank Tank lineup is a series of rarely released beers from the hombres of headiness. These occasional treats from the dark side of SweetWater’s soul emerge from the brewery’s experimental one-hitter…the Dank Tank. Brewed only when the itch gets so bad, they just have to scratch it.

Southern Tier Brewing Announces Tennessee Distribution (PR)

Southern Tier Brewing Company of Lakewood, New York, announces the expansion of their distribution network with the addition of Ajax Turner of Nashville, TN.

The brewery is preparing to ship their entire catalog of beers to the Music City metro area, including limited quantities of the seasonal cult sensation Pumking Imperial Pumpkin Ale.  The first of the Blackwater Series of imperial stouts to ship will be Oat followed by Choklat, available in November. The SuperPack will be available in early 2013. Featuring Unearthly Imperial IPA, 2xIPA, and Iniquity Imperial Black Ale, the SuperPack is a high gravity 12 pack of 12 ounce bottles with an average ABV of nearly 9.0%.

With a varied catalog, the Southern Tier Brewing Company has a lot to offer beer lovers. “There was a large Tennessee shaped hole in our map. We’ve begun filling that in with the addition of Ajax Turner Company,” said Phin DeMink, brewery president. “They’ll usher us in to another growing craft market in the greater Nashville area. We look forward to providing Southern Tier Brewing Company beers to another southern state.” DeMink added that the rest of the state will be online by January 2013.

“We are thrilled to add Southern Tier to our portfolio and are looking forward to spreading the liquid greatness they are known for.” Clark Calvert, craft/import manager at Ajax Turner added, “Nashville’s craft beer lovers are in for a real treat this October with the arrival of this great brand.”

In the summer of 2012 the brewery started construction on an expansion to include a 110 BBL brewhouse to help meet calls for increased production. Prior to this, a new high-speed bottle line was installed in December 2010 followed by a high speed keg line. Quality control and product consistency has remained paramount to the design decisions.

Southern Tier Brewing Company has watched their output and public demand steadily increase since the first few hundred barrels brewed in their former facility in 2003.  With a remarkable 70,000 BBL brewed by the end of 2012, and with additional new markets like Tennessee, the brewery expects 2013 to be another record setting year for production.

Odell Brewing releases Woodcut No. 6 featuring Mosaic Hops (PR)

Fort Collins, CO. — On October 6, 2012 Odell Brewing will release its sixth Woodcut brew, an oak aged American ale featuring Mosaic hops. Woodcut No. 6 is the first dry hopped offering in the series, and is the result of over a year of collaboration between the Mosaic hop farmers and Odell Brewing.

“We shared some Woodcut No. 3 and Woodcut No. 4 with Jason Perrault, a 4th generation Yakima Valley hop farmer, and he loved it,” said Brendan McGivney, head of production at Odell Brewing. “He and Brad Carpenter (his family began growing hops in the valley in 1868) then shared some experimental hops with us, and we fell in love with them.

Odell Brewing began brewing with the experimental hops, known only as “HBC 369” at that time. The hops offered a profoundly unique flavor and aroma, so the brewers invited the pair to come to the brewery to brew Woodcut No. 6 with them, at which point they had landed on the name “Mosaic.”

The brewers included both Mosaic and another yet-to-be-named experimental hop variety in the kettle and Hopback. The beer was dry hopped with 100% Mosaic hops, and transferred to virgin American oak barrels where it aged for several months. The final blend marries the unique and complex tropical fruit sweetness of the Mosaic hop with the vanilla and toasted oak from the new barrels.

Odell Brewing will celebrate the release of Woodcut No. 6 on October 6th in the Tap Room with live music and local food. The brewery will also pour the beer at The Great American Beer Festival®October 11th — 13th.

Founded in 1989, Odell Brewing was started by Doug Odell, his wife Wynne, and his sister Corkie. Twenty-three years later, the culture of family and collaboration still thrives fostering a brewery full of beer-centric people. It is this passion for beer that inspires Odell Brewing to create quality, hand-crafted, innovative brews. As a regional craft brewery, Odell Brewing is committed to serving the communities in which it distributes by sourcing local raw materials, and through its charitable giving program known as Odell Outreach. Odell Brewing was recently named a “Top Company of 2010” by ColoradoBiz Magazine and is an award winning brewery, nationally and internationally: 2012 Brewers Association Recognition Award, 2011 Great American Beer Festival® – gold medal for Friek. 2010 North American Beer Awards — gold medal for Woodcut No. 3. 2009 BrewNZ Awards — gold for 5 Barrel Pale Ale. 2008 World Beer Cup® — gold for IPA. 2007 Great American Beer Festival® — gold medal for IPA.

Odell Mountain Standard Double Black IPA Returns (PR)

FORT COLLINS, CO. — On September 22, 2012, fall officially returns as does Odell Brewing Company’s Mountain Standard. The brew, a double black IPA, was released in a four-pack for the first time last year.

Featuring hops grown on Colorado’s western slope, the brew blends a rich, dark malt character with a crisp and bright hop aroma and flavor. The bold combination pairs well with brined or roasted meats, sharp aged cheddars, or bittersweet chocolate.

Mountain Standard was a featured “Craft Beer of the Day” on Forbes.com. “For a brew that clocks in at 9.5% ABV, Mountain Standard Double Black India Pale Ale is remarkably tasty,” said Forbes contributor, Erik Kain. “It manages to be very strong and very delicious all at once, with a nice round flavor that lingers gently, leaving that perfect balance of bitter and sweet in your mouth long after you’ve drained your glass.”

The brewery will celebrate the return of Mountain Standard in the Tap Room on September 22nd, during the Fall Equinox. Guests can try the beer, and enjoy local food truck fare as well as live music by The Constant Tourists from 4 — 6 p.m.

Mountain Standard is available from September — January within the brewery’s ten state distribution footprint.
