COLFAX, CA – Crispin is launching another “British Invasion” with Fox Barrel English Perry, a juicy, fresh, medium-bodied pear cider with a subtle citrus zing and a natural pear finish.

Maui Brewing Collaborates With Dogfish Head On Liquid Breadfruit (PR)

LAHAINA, MAUI, HI – Maui Brewing Co. (MBC) is very proud to announce the upcoming release of their first collaboration with Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales (DFH) of Milton, Delaware.  Liquid Breadfruit is an Imperial Golden Ale brewed with ‘ulu (local Maui breadfruit) and toasted papaya seeds.  This unique beer also utilizes “DNA” (Delaware Native Ale), a special yeast, captured outside a peach farm in Delaware.  Liquid Breadfruit marks the third in the quarterly limited releases announced by MBC earlier this year.  Earlier releases have been La Perouse White (Spring 2012) and Sobrehumano Palena’ole (Summer 2012).  Liquid Breadfruit will be released in October.

Craft brewing wunderkinds Garrett Marrero (MBC) and Sam Calagione (DFH) had talked about a collaboration brew.  After reading an invitation from Garrett to her dad, Sam’s young daughter, Grier, just couldn’t hold back her excitement at the possibility of traveling to Hawaii.  So, in part, thanks to a little girl’s inquisitiveness and ensuing persistence, plans for the collaboration really started to come together.  So, how was the idea for a breadfruit beer born? Sam recalls, “One day I saw an article in a newspaper about  breadfruit and it sounded enticing.  We had isolated a yeast native to Delaware that has a lot of tropical notes … I said ‘DANG’ to myself and shot Garrett an email asking him what he thought about breadfruit.”  The response was extremely positive and, together, the brewers at DFH and MBC started developing the recipe.  This collaborative effort pulled in many ideas — including the use of toasted papaya seeds, Calypso hops and adding additional bread-inspired grains in the beer.  And, the name, seemed simple enough to Sam — he says, “I thought it would be cool to call the beer LIQUID BREADFRUIT — since beer has been called ‘liquid bread’ for centuries.”

The Breadfruit Institute of Hana, Maui, Hawaii is an organization that promotes the conservation and use of breadfruit for food and reforestation.  Garrett and Sam spoke with Ian Cole and Diane Ragone to learn more about this very important, staple crop of Polynesian cultures. The fruit and seeds of all species of breadfruit are edible and nutritious, providing protein and minerals, and the tree can also provide materials for construction, medicine, fabric, glue, insect repellent, animal feed and more.  While this “tree of bread” has the potential to play a large role in alleviating hunger in many parts of the world, it intrigued this duo to do what they do best — to push the boundaries of craft beer!  Approximately 2500 lbs. of breadfruit was harvested for the Liquid Breadfruit Project; and 10.5 lbs. of papaya seeds painstakingly harvested by staff and local farmers markets.

Approximately 400 barrels will be produced out of which 4300 cases will be canned and the difference to be available in draft.  All market areas where MBC is distributed will receive product but specific allocations will be based on sales.  “The only downside to this project is that we had originally scheduled LB for a September release but due to a late breadfruit harvest, this schedule has been pushed back to October,” tells us Garrett Marrero.  “But all good things take time.  Sam and I enjoyed working together on this project and we look forward to being able to share it with our fellow craft beer lovers.  The pub batch brewed as a test in April was a HUGE hit at our annual Maui Brewer’s Festival.”  Fans will be sure to enjoy the whimsical and brightly colored graphics on the packaging as well as what is in the can. When Sam sampled the first batch, he said, “it tasted like what it feels like to be on Maui…like nature magnified: tropical and refreshing and lovely.”

About Maui Brewing:

Maui Brewing Co. is a truly Hawaiian brewery, and proud to make 100% of their beer, canned and draft, in Hawaii. Recognized as Hawaii’s #1 craft beer since 2005, the company has a strong commitment to the local economy and the environment. MBC beers are packaged with the most eco-friendly materials. Cans are manufactured on Oahu and designed by local Maui artists. They have the added bonus of better protecting the beer from both light and oxygen damage which can compromise the taste. Plastic rings are dangerous to marine life and therefore, a unique, recyclable plastic carrying device is used to hold the cans. The spent grain from beer production is donated to local ranchers for cattle feed and composting. MBC is also very active in several local Hawaiian charities. Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a 7-barrel brewpub at the Kahana location as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. Maui Brewing Co. is a truly local beer as 100% of their products are made in Hawaii. Contact [email protected] for interviews, additional information, or media questions. Switchback Brewing Company to Bottle its Signature Ale for Sale in Vermont (PR)

Switchback Brewing Company to Bottle its Signature Ale for Sale in Vermont

Brewery marks 10th anniversary with release of Switchback Ale in 22oz bottles and a public celebration on October 13, 2012

Burlington, VT: Switchback Brewing Company announced that it will bottle its beer in Vermont with state-of-the-art equipment that allows the company to stay local and true to its commitment to quality. This move has been greatly anticipated by fans of the beer, many of which have been clamoring to enjoy Switchback at home for years.   A public anniversary celebration and open house will be held on October 13th at the brewery.

Switchback Ale a Draught Beer Sensation

Demand for Switchback Ale has been ever increasing since it was introduced in October 2002. The beer’s popularity quickly soared strictly through word of mouth recommendations.  The company, instead of rapidly increasing production to meet demand, focused on remaining an independent, quality-driven brewery.  Because of that focus on quality, the beer has only been sold on draught at bars, restaurants, and hotels throughout the region until now.

The Long Road to Bottles

In the company’s early years, it held back from bottling, planning to wait until it could afford the technology that would maintain the highest standards of quality.  As the popularity of the beer continued to rise, bottling became impossible as the brewery could not make enough beer to satisfy keg demand, despite steadily expanding capacity.  There simply was no beer to bottle.

“Slow growth has enabled Switchback to monitor and ensure quality through every step of our expansion,” said Bill Cherry, President/Brewmaster.  “The tide began to turn in 2009, when we installed a beautiful copper brewhouse, built in 1964 and acquired from a brewery in Beerfelden, Germany.  This brewhouse allowed us to begin work on a bottling line,” Cherry explained.   “The new bottling line has as its centerpiece a German engineered filling system that is arguably the best in the world.  The gentle and hygienic handling of the beer in this filling line allows for Switchback Ale to be absolutely identical to the draught (keg) beer version.”  Between the increased capacity and the new bottling equipment, Switchback now produces enough beer and has the technology to offer bottles .

10 Year Anniversary Events

The public release of Switchback Ale in bottles will coincide with the brewery’s 10th Anniversary.  To celebrate this milestone, Switchback Brewing Company will host public and private events at the brewery. On Friday, October 12, the brewery will host a VIP dinner to thank local dignitaries and the many local businesses, friends, and workers who have been a part of the brewery’s development and growth over the years.

On Saturday, October 13, the brewery will have a public celebration and open house, featuring live music by Japhy Ryder as well as Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band, with Switchback-simmered bratwurst provided by McKenzie Country Classics.  Local merchants A-maize-ing Kettle Corn, Misery Loves Company, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Rookies Root Beer, Black River Coffee Roasters, and Big Fatty’s BBQ will also be participating.  Brewery tours, photo booths, airbrush tattoos, henna tattoos, and many other fun activities will be underway all afternoon. A Magnum-Sized Celebration to Honor 41 Years of Brewing (PR)

On September 30, 1971, Mark Carpenter joined Anchor Brewing Company as one of five employees. In the decades that followed, Mark played a key role in developing the many innovative beers that were produced at Anchor.

And upon becoming brewmaster in 2010, Mark has continued that innovation — starting with the release of Brekle’sTM Brown in 2011, and with the 2012 introduction of the Zymaster® Series, a unique series of beers rooted in its exceptional respect for the ancient art and noble traditions of brewing. The inaugural beer in the series, Zymaster Series No. 1: California Lager, was released in February 2012.

This past July, Zymaster Series No. 2: Mark’s Mild was released in draught only. To commemorate Mark’s 41st anniversary, we’re releasing a limited edition magnum (1.5 Liters) of Mark’s Mild. Beginning Monday, October 1st, Mark’s Mild magnums will be sold only through the Taproom at our brewery while supplies last. Mark’s Mild is inspired by the British Mild style, lower in alcohol, but high in flavor. This brew has a malty sweetness with hints of chocolate, nuts, caramel and toffee, and a smooth, thirst-quenching finish, proving the notion that beer doesn’t have to be extreme to be interesting.

Anchor Brewing Company is proud to have Mark Carpenter as our brewmaster and friend. We invite you to raise your Anchor and help us celebrate.

Guinness to launch ‘Made of More’ Campaign (PR)

Diageo, owner of GUINNESS®, today announces details of a new multimedia advertising campaign that will run in both Great Britain and Ireland. The new creative campaign reinforces the brand positioning – „Made of More‟ – and features a TV advert entitled „Cloud‟, to be exclusively previewed on the UK and Irish Guinness Facebook page on 1st October at 12 noon and then on TV, digital and in cinema from 4th October.

Created by AMV BBDO, the campaign celebrates the attitude shared by the brand and its drinkers — getting more out of life by putting more in. The creative, also features print and digital.

„Cloud‟, the first film, directed by award-winning Peter Thwaites from Gorgeous, was shot on location in South Africa in both Johannesburg and along the Durban coastline. It follows the extraordinary journey of a rather unusual cloud, a metaphor to show the amazing things that can happen when we challenge ourselves to make the most of who we are. The film, which will have 90”, 60” and 30” versions, shows a lone cloud breaking away from a cloudy mass, slowing down, no longer blown along by the elements. The cloud chooses its own path, and floats in from the ocean to explore the city below, no longer a simple cloud but something „made of more‟.

As the film progresses, the cloud engages with people, places and objects below, seeing itself reflected in mirrored skyscraper, darkening as it approaches the scene of a fierce industrial fire before the dramatic climax. The cloud then gently drifts back, ocean-bound, and gradually merges into a swirling pint of Guinness, before resolving with the new endline Guinness. Made of More.

The campaign will also include Out of Home creative further developing the „Made of More‟ positioning. Using four extraordinary visuals shot by renowned photographer Nadav Kandar on location at the Olympic National Park, Washington State, they reveal unique creatures which evidently refuse to settle for the ordinary: a woodpecker has sculptured itself an elaborate home, a caterpillar has delicately nibbled out highly detailed scene in a leaf, and a spider has spun an intricate web depicting other insects to tempt its prey. A fourth poster shows a swarm of fireflies that have come together to make the shape of a beautiful chandelier on an overhanging branch.

Nick Britton, GUINNESS Senior Brand Manager, said “We think the new brand creative will resonate with people who are open-minded and alive to opportunity and it will inspire them to never settle for the ordinary. The idea of something being made of more is one that really reflects a shared attitude GUINNESS has with its drinkers who love the distinctive look and taste of GUINNESS and aspire to get the most out of every aspect of their lives. It’s not defined by a single age, class or demographic. GUINNESS has always been synonymous with iconic advertising and this new creative direction for the brand presents great territory to connect with consumers that never settle for the ordinary.”

Executive Creative Director BBDO on Guinness Western Europe, Dave Buchanan, said, “We all have a choice. Many years ago Arthur Guinness chose to transcend the ordinary and produce an extraordinary drink, a drink made of more. Today our cloud bucks the trend. Instead of being blown by the wind it takes its own extraordinary journey; our spider spins an extraordinary web and our woodpecker fashions an extraordinary house. This campaign is about that choice: Do we settle for the way things are or do we take the bold choice to step up and be made of more? Do we settle for an ordinary drink or do we choose one that is made of more?”
