Dogfish Experiments w/ Lemons

Dogfish Brewing is experimenting with lemons.  A test batch of “Dry 90 Minute IPA” was sold recently at the brewpub.  Seems like it was a success, and more experiments like this are on the way.  Looks like DFH hopes to Continue Reading →

Lots of people are buried deep in snow right now.  Instead of digging out, grab a beer.  AND instead of filling up the fridge with beer, just look out your front door.  Found this little beer nugget via @musecrossing on Continue Reading →

Dogfish Experiments w/ Lemons

Dogfish Brewing is experimenting with lemons.  A test batch of “Dry 90 Minute IPA” was sold recently at the brewpub.  Seems like it was a success, and more experiments like this are on the way.  Looks like DFH hopes to launch a new beer based on the experiments soon.

From Dogfish’s Blog:

A few months back we did an experimental batch of a big hoppy dry IPA we called DFH Ale. We’ve sold it in and around our immediate home turf and we’ve all loved that beer (and so did many of you judging from the emails). Drier than 90 Minute IPA and with explosive hop aromas. We’ve also recently been playing around with whole dried orange slices in our Namaste. Usually wheat whites are brewed with just the peel but these chunks of dried actual fruit flesh really turns us on. So, we found out the company we get the oranges from also does supernatural chunks of lemons. We like the way the lemon flesh compliments the citrus notes of centennial hops and we have a very special music-related project for which we think the lemons, centennial hops and the DFH Ale dna will create the perfect crossroad of awesomeness – so we’re putting all three together. Today we do the test batch here at the Rehoboth brewpub and in May we hope to launch big bottles in full distribution.

Obama Super Bowl Party Included Home Brew

Yesterday President Obama held a party in the White House for the Super Bowl.  Unlike his Presidential Beer Summit, this party included craft beer, AND get this – home brew.  That’s right, home brew.

The home brew was a White House Honey Ale, brewed with 1 lb of honey from the White House bee hive.  (I didn’t know there was a WH Bee Hive).  In addition to the Honey Ale, beers from both Packer & Steeler country were featured.  From Pennsylvania – Yuengling Lager & Yuengling Light Lager. (I would have figured Iron City.  That beer is huge in Pittsburgh).   From Wisconsin, Hinterland Brewery. Hinterland provided their Pale Ale, Amber Ale, & Luna Stout.

Side Notes: Obama backed the Steelers. Oh, and J-Lo was there.

February Is Strong Beer Month

21st Amendment Brewing & Magnolia Gastropub & Brewery have once again collaborated on “Strong Beer Month”.  As described on the webpage dedicated to the occasion:

Magnolia and 21st Amendment are proud to collaborate together once again on strong beer month.  It’s an opportunity to explore the ritual & traditions of brewers commemorating seasons and occasions with special brews, usually strong in nature and intended for sipping and contemplation.

Both Magnolia & 21A have special strong brews at each of their respective locations in San Francisco, CA.  By the looks of it – barleywines, imperial stouts, tripels and more.  I’m sure if you aren’t in the area, there are plenty of strong beers to drink along with  If you Twitter – use #StrongBeerMonth.

Untappd Adds Badges

As an ex-Boy Scout myself, I get the love of badges.  If you are a Foursquare user and a beer drinker, you’ve probably heard of Untappd.  It’s a mobile site based “app” that networks you and other beer drinkers together for one cause – drinking beer.

Last evening, Untappd announced new seasonal badges.  One for the Super Bowl, and one for Valentine’s Day.  If you already have Untappd you’ll see the new badges waiting to be earned on your badges pages.

I can’t wait to see “I’ve earned the Super Bowl Badge” all  over my Twitter feed (@ATLBeerMaster) on Sunday.  Oh wait, yes I can.
