Tonight for Cypress Street’s weekly “Beer Geek Tuesday”  the featured special guest beer is a cask conditioned Bell’s Amber.  Amber is released year round by Bell’s.  They describe it like this –

“Our flagship beer is made from mostly pale malt with some Munich and caramel malts. This gives it a slightly sweet flavor that is balanced by a melange of American hops. The result is a deep copper color and rich flavor.”

CASK ALERT: Dark Saison

Back in July I got to brew this beer with 5 Seasons West.  While the draft version isn’t tapping yet, a cask of this beer is ready to go!

It’s a saison brewed with dark malts (accenting chocolate and black patent malt.   Hops are willamette and hallertau.  It really should be an interesting beer with a nice flavor departure from some saisons you  might have had in the past.

I get to tap this cask today, 5:55 pm @5 Seasons West!  Come say hi!

CASK ALERT: Dry Hopped Dale’s Pale!

Late entry shrouded in mystery.  Tapping today – 6 pm at the “The Fred” is a cask of dry hopped Dale’s pale ale by Oskar Blues.  What it’s dry hopped with is a secret .  Either intentional, or that it is unknown.  Either way.  Be there at 6pm.  Sounds like a tasty cask to me.

Because some people ask- this beer will be gravity tapped.  Not on the beer engine.

UPDATE: Dry hopped with centennial hops!!

CASK ALERT: Heavy Seas Hang Ten

Taco Mac Crabapple will be tapping a cask of Heavy Seas Hang Ten Weizenbock at Taco Mac Crabapple, August 6th @ 6 pm.

Beer Description:

Hang Ten is a German weizenbock.  Weizenbocks typically have a complex malt character, while remaining on the high alcohol range.  They are comparable to bocks (especially in strength.) A weizenbock is a stronger version of the unfiltered Weissbier or Hefeweizen.

Taste Expectations: Look for dark fruit flavors — (plum, cherry, Raisins even prunes) followed by a big malt profile — caramel, even some vanilla.  Malt sweetness can make you think brown sugar.

Availability:  22oz Bombers, limited release.  Small batch release — July 2010

Cellerable: Yes, for up to 2 years.  Bottles are Vintage dated 2010.

10% ABV

CASK ALERT: Terrapin/De Proef Monstre Rouge

Recently, the brewers of Terrapin went over to Belgium to collaborate on a beer with De Proef Brewing.  The beer is due out in August, but a cask is premiering today at Brick Store Pub.

The beer is an imperial flanders red ale .  Spike Buckowski, head brewer at Terrapin states it is based off of “Big Hoppy Monster” a red ale.  Spike’s brewing style has a German influence so he added rye malt into the mix.  Brettanomyces yeast is used in Monstre Rouge, along with crystal malt and munich malt.  American hop strains were used, and as a nice finishing touch Rouge was aged on American oak.  This red ale will have a nice mix of both American and Belgian brewing styles.

More to follow on this beer as it gets closer to widespread release.

Peak Brewing makes organic beers.  Tasty organic beers.  Their most recent release is Summer Session Ale.  The recipe for this IPA came from North Shore Brew Club.  I like that.  Straight from the garage, or back deck.  The IPA tapping on Friday a cask conditioned version, poured from the beer engine.  Rob Lucente brewer at Peak describes the cask versions to have a bit more of the Amarillo citrus flavor expressed.
