Blue Moon Brewing to Build Innovation Brewery in Denver

Blue Moon Brewing, part of MillerCoor’s craft division, Tenth & Blake, will be building a new brewery in Denver, Colorado. The site has a 2016 opening target date.

The new facility is located in Denver’s RiNo Art District, and will produce around 10,000 barrels (310,000 gallons) annually. This new facility will be an innovation and pilot brewery, complete with tasting room, and event space.

“We just locked-down a prime location in the heart of Denver’s rapidly growing RiNo Art District,” said Keith Villa, founder and head brewmaster at Blue Moon Brewing Company. “We founded Blue Moon on a belief that brewing is equal parts art and science. So it’s pretty cool that 20 years later we get to design a new brewery in an area where we’ll be surrounded by fellow artists.”

Blue Moon’s original Sandlot Brewery facility will remain operational, ever after the new site comes online.

Hi-Wire Announces New Facility Location [PICS]

Hi-Wire Brewing (Asheville, NC) has announced the location of their new, 26,000 square foot production facility, slated to open in July, 2015.  The new facility is located in Biltmore Village, directly behind Appalachian Vintner at Two Huntsman Place.

“We were super excited, back in late 2014, when we placed an order for our sparkling new dream brewhouse from Europe,” stated Adam Charnack, co-owner of Hi-Wire Brewing. “We didn’t want to jump the gun, though, on announcing too many details about our future operation at that time…simply because we didn’t have all the answers. Now that our real estate is secured, loan closed, construction underway, and brewhouse ready to ship, it’s time to tell the world about our latest pride and joy!”

Hi-Wire will call the new digs the Biltmore “Big Top.” Anyone who has been to Asheville knows that the place to be is downtown. Finding a big enough buliding less than two miles from the current downtown location is extremely lucky. Many craft breweries have to settle for a new facility many miles from the original spot.

The new 30 barrel brewhouse is slated to arrive in April. Hi-Wire’s Biltmore “Big Top” will be able to produce 55,000 barrels (1.7 million gallons annually). It will house a second tap room with outdoor seating.

Mikkeller & Alesmith to Partner on New Brewery

Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, better known at gypsy brewer Mikkeller, is forming a partnership with San Diego, California’s Alesmith Brewing Company.

Initial details indicate the Alesmith and Mikkeller will be forming a new partnership, creating a brewery (not yet named). The new brewhouse will be located in a building that Alesmith currently owns.

This isn’t the first time Mikkeller used this approach. Bjergsø also owns Warpigs, a Copenhagen brewery with Indiana based Three Floyds. Additionally, Bjergsø/Mikkeller owns Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco, California.

The new brewery could be operational as of Summer, 2015. Mikkeller currently produces various offerings for the United States at craft breweries across the country. No word if that will continue after the new brewery is online.

You almost saw this coming, as Alesmith & Mikkeller recently released a collaboration, Beer Geek Speedway.

Beer Street Journal has reached out to Alesmith and Mikkeller for more information.

Creature Comforts Doubling Capacity, More Can Distribution Soon

Creature Comforts (Athens, GA) has two 12oz cans in market close to home,  Athena and Tropicalia. Pallets of the both offerings are selling as fast as the brewery’s 40 can per minute line will produce.

The brewery is increasing their fermentation capacity starting this week (mid-February.)

Even though Creature Comforts hasn’t been open a year yet, the brewery will soon max out at 4,000 barrels a year (124,000 gallons.) The tanks that are hitting the the brewery floor now will increase capacity to 8,000 barrels annually.

Blake Tyers of Creature Comforts tells Beer Street Journal that the new tanks are earmarked for can production (just to keep the supply up.) The extra capacity will help with supplying the city of Atlanta, who are all but demanding the fresh cans. Currently, the timeline for Atlanta to receive cans is by the end of March, 2015.

Even though the 8,000 barrels gives Creature Comforts some growing room, Tyers laments – that might not last very long.

Upslope Continues To Grow, Adds Capacity, New Beers

Upslope Brewing sold 19,600 barrels in 2014, a 66% increase over 2013. The 2014 growth was fueled by strong home market demand plus new market addtions, such as Texas, Arizona and Wyoming.

With the addition of Montana and New Mexico Upslope will now be distributed, border-to-border, throughout the Intermountain West,” says Henry Wood, Director of Sales and Marketing. “This will put the freshest beer into market areas where we love to work and play.”

Upslope recently purchased a new centrifuge, canning line, cold room and three more 120-barrel fermenters. The extra tanks will bring the brewery’s production capacity to 35,000 barrels annually (just over 1 million gallons a year).

Coming soon: A new 12 oz. Limited Release style and more additions to the Lee Hill series.

Brewdog Eyes U.S. Production Location

Scottish craft brewer, Brewdog, might be eyeing a United States production location.

Stone Brewing Co. announced late last year that the brewery would build an east coast facility in Richmond, Virginia. Brewery co-founder Greg Koch mentioned on the brewery’s Facebook page that Brewdog could potentially build stateside. Furthermore, Stone would be interested in making connections with governments and officials not only in Richmond, Virginia but other cities on behalf of Brewdog.

Dear Columbus, Ohio & Norfolk, Virginia –

Our good friends at Scotland’s BrewDog are potentially looking for a U.S. spot to locate a production facility, tasting room…and perhaps even a restaurant. I told them that I’d be more than happy to make an introduction to the good folks at the other two “Top 3” locations we considered (ultimately we chose Richmond, Virginia, as you all know). Of course, we’ll make direct introductions between James Watt at BrewDog and the governmental officials of your two fine cities, and let you take any possible discussions from there. We really value the relationships we have built, and are more than happy to help connect some dots with our friends at BrewDog.

Cheers | Greg Koch, CEO & Co-founder, Stone Brewing Co.

Brewdog owns a production facility, and 26 bars/bottle shops in the United Kingdom and beyond.
