Red Brick Expanding One Off Brews

Almost the entire staff at Red Brick Brewing (Atlanta) knows how to brew/home brew. The brewery holds employee brew-offs every so often, winner gets some hefty bragging rights around the tap room.

It is that kind of innovation that led to the discover of a recent seasonal, Sacred Cow Chai Tea Stout. An experimental internal recipe was found to be quite amazing.

Atlanta’s oldest brewery has gotten a new 3 barrel fermenter. That means more experimental brews, and more interesting seasonals to come.

Mark my words.

Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) is looking to build another production brewery on the east coast, much like New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and Oskar Blue have done.  (Note: Lagunitas is about to open their second facility in Chicago, IL)

The location has not been determined yet; the brewery is looking somewhere from mid-west to east coast.

The new location will feature a full production brewery, Stone World Bistro and Gardens, visitor center, tap room, and more. A note published by Stone co-founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner today is acting as a public Request for Proposal. They hope communities that consider themselves a good fit for Stone will respond with their own proposals.

No budgets, or time table for construction have been set. Bottom line, Stone will be building closer to the east coast in the fairly near future.

Nebraska Brewing Soon To Be Biggest In State

Nebraska Brewing Company (Papillon, NE) is just days away from being able to boast something most people dream about – having the state’s largest brewery. Soon, Nebraska will have that title.

The new production facility is located in LaVista, Nebraska is about 15 minutes from their current spot. It has the capacity to produce 10,000 barrels (310,000 gallons) of beer to start, and is expandable to 50,000 barrels (1.5 million gallons) a year. A big step up from the 1,000+ barrels at the original location Paul and Kim Kavulak opened in 2007.

In addition to this growth news, soon craft beer drinkers and enjoy Nebraska’s lineup out of cans for the first time.

Nebraska’s year round offerings include EOS Hefeweizen, India Pale Ale, and Brunette Nut Brown. In addition, Nebraska has a Reserve Series that features various barrel aged offerings.

The new facility is located at 6946 S. 108th Street La Vista, NE. La Vista is home to another craft brewery, Lucky Bucket Brewing.

A Second Brewery For The Alchemist?

Recently, The Alchemist, makers of one of the most sought after beers in America, made the tough decision to close their retail location in Vermont. Traffic, and lack of adequate parking forced the hand of owners Jen and John Kimmich. Shortly after the devastating news, The Alchemist announced they would open a second retail location, hopefully by the end of 2013.

The brewery is stuck in a great position. There is overwhelming demand, for their product.  However, the inability to produce as much of #1 selling Heady Topper as they want (at the price point they want) is limiting.

In a recent article published in Business Insider, it was hinted that a second brewery isn’t off the table for the Kimmich family.. The reality is, Heady Topper is in high demand. Bars and retail shop owners in Vermont and beyond are frustrated that they can’t keep up with demand. This has created a black market that recently got a lady arrested.

Expect a big year for The Alchemist in 2014.
