After years of waiting, Yazoo Brewing finally launches in Georgia

Fans of Yazoo Brewing in Georgia have been wondering when they would the brewery on shelves in the Peach State. Hell, we’ve been asking founder Linus Hall when that would be, and all he’s ever said is “soon.”

After 5+ years of “soon,” we now know when that is. March of 2020.

Yazoo has signed a distribution deal with Georgia Crown Distributing Co. The launch lineup includes Hefeweizen, Hopry Hazy IPA, and a Beer Street Journal favorite – Gerst Amber Ale.

Additionally, select beers from the Embrace the Funk, the brewery’s sour and wild series will appear throughout the year.

Yazoo Brewing opened its doors in 2003.  After flourishing in Nashville’s “Gulch” area, the brewery recently moved to a new 6.5-acre campus just north of downtown.

Yazoo’s Embrace the Funk releases bottles this week

On Thursday, June 9th, Nashville’s Yazoo Brewing releases more bottles from their funky/wild line – Embrace the Funk.

Snag bottles of Deux Rouges (Batch 3) and Delicieux (Batch 2).

Deux Rouges Batch 3 is our Flanders Red aged  with souring bacterias and multiple Brettanomyces strains for over a year in freshly emptied Merlot barrels. This year’s blend consists of 10 select barrels (including a portion from the original batch 1) that together bring big notes of raisin, dark cherry, fig and an oaky tannic wine finish.

Délicieux Batch 2 is a delicious hoppy Belgian Pale Ale with 2 strains of Brettanomyces from the Senne Valley in Belgium. A generous dry hopping with Styrian Goldings give this funky pale ale an earthy, spicy and herbal flavor/aroma. This beer will age well and constantly evolve. This year’s batch was slightly tweaked lending to a lighter color/body and drier/hoppier finish.

Yazoo Hop Perfect IPA to replace Hop Project Series

Yazoo Hop Perfect IPA will soon debut, replacing the brewery’s Hop Project Series. The Hop Project Series has been active for many years, as the brewery hunted for their best India pale ale rendition.

While the Hop Project series is going away, a piece of it will live on in Yazoo Hop Perfect IPA. If you recall 10 Year Anniversary IPA from a few years ago, that recipe is out in market now as Hop Project #86. That will live on as the perfect recipe for an by Yazoo.

Yazoo’s Embrace The Funk Tri-Bottle Release 4/2

On Thursday April 2nd, Yazoo Brewing’s Embrace the Funk division will release three wild/sour offerings. Among those is the second release of Deux Rouges.

Deux Rouges (Batch 2) – Brewed in late 2013 this Flanders Red style evolved for over a year with wild yeasts and souring bacteria in Merlot wine barrels.  This marriage of funky red beer and red wine creates a wonderful array of dark fruits, oak, vanilla and tartness. This is the base beer used in our Great American Beer Festival award winning “Cherry Deux Rouges”.  Limit 4 bottles per person $20 each (750ml).

Delicieux –  Historically the Belgian Pale Ale style was a “session” or “everyday” beer for the areas around Antwerp, Belgium.   Our version of this Pale Ale is fermented with a classic Belgian yeast and two Brettanomyces strains from the Senne Valley in Belgium. Upfront subtle maltiness and spicy/peppery aromas from a generous Styrian Golding dry hop addition, lead to a hoppy dry delicate funky finish. Delicious! This ever-changing beer will age well. No limit on bottles (12oz) at $4 per bottle.

Funky Blue Persuasion – This is a 100% wine barrel fermented golden sour ale that aged with souring bacterias and wild yeasts. Then we added over 2 pounds of Blueberries per gallon along with a fresh dose of funky Brettanomyces for a secondary fermentation.  Right now this deep dark blue colored ale is bursting with a pleasing balance of blueberry, lemon citrusy sourness and funky Brett character. Make sure you don’t drink this one too cold, the character will come alive as it warms. With age the fruit will fade and the beer will increase in sour/funkiness. This is a single barrel batch, so we have to put a limit of 1 bottle per person at $25 each (750ml).

All three bottles will be available in the tap room in Nashville, Tennessee starting at 4 pm on Thursday, April 2nd.

On May 3rd, 2015, the brewery will hold another Embrace the Funk Sour Festival.
