Looking For Beer Gifts? How About Victory Stout Popcorn

Christmas and Hanukkah are looming. You need gifts for your beer loving friends. How about some Victory Donnybrook Stout Popcorn?  Victory Brewing’s Bill Covaleski and  Metropolitan Bakery have teamed up to make beer popcorn.

This new small-batch popcorn features the smoky, malty undertones of Victory’s Donnybrook Stout, a European style ale made with whole flower hops and roasted barley. Mixed with salty caramel and freshly popped popcorn, and then baked in thin layers for extra crispness, the result is an intense, not-too-sweet holiday treat, perfect for gift giving.

A tub will run you $9.95 before shipping.  Other boozy corn flavors include Bourbon Infused, and Stout w/ Almonds.  All are available online and in Metropolitan Bakery shops. The Victory Donnybrook Stout popcorn can also be purchased at the Victory Brewing Company brewpub and retail store at 420 Acorn Lane in Downingtown, Pa. 19335.

Victory Dark Intrigue Heads For Distro

The 2nd and final edition of Victory Brewing’s barrel aged offering- Dark Intrigue took less than 4 hours to sell out.  Couldn’t make it to Downingtown for Dark Wednesday?  It will be hitting distribution this week.  What’s all the hoopla?  Victory took Storm King and aged it in Heaven Hill and Jim Beam barrels over the summer.  It already sounds delicious right? Well, due to time/capacity/contraints, this is the last time the brewery is making Dark Intrigue.

Dark Intrigue will be distributed in PA and NJ as well as 18 other states. Call your local retailer to see if they are getting some.

It’s a good thing too.  Those who got the beer had to wake up pretty early in the morning.  Like 4 am.  Some pics from the day via Downingtown Dish:

New Quingenti Entry: Saison Du Buff In Red Wine

Another entry into Stone Brewing’s Quingenti Series –  Stone/Victory/Dogfish Head Saison Du Buff, aged in red wine barrels.  Du Buff was/is a collaboration saison, brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.

It’s a saison of sorts; hellaciously herbaceous and hopefully contagious.  This was not a ready made ale.  Buff is how we think, how we act, and who we are… Brewers united for freedom of flavor!  Herbs in our brew?  Impossible where I trained in Germany! But America has granted our breweries the amazing opportunity with gusto in making this collaborative ale.  Other than the times we’ve seen each other at conferences and fests since we formed BUFF in 2003, this is the first chance we’ve had to get together over a brew (as in making it) and later, a brew (as in drinking it.) I hope you’re able to enjoy this collaborative effort with your old friends! – Sam, Bill, Greg

Style: Saison (wine barrel aged)
Availability: 500ml bottles, corked & caged
Release: TBA.  Stone will tie the sales of bottles to a lottery, (or a book to buy first, lol)  No distribution, if it follows previous releases.

7.9% ABV

No Victory Old Ho In 2012

Victory Brewing’s Old Horizontal Barleywine will not make an appearance in 2012.  As Victory grows, so does the demand for their products.  Why?  Bill Covaleski basically explains it like this:

With most of our beers, we can use the second-runnings of sugar-rich wort (the pre-fermentation liquid from the brew) in the recipe. That is not the case with Old Horizontal, so we have to brew twice as much in order to make half the yield of a “regular” Victory beer. With our brewhouse running at peak capacity, we literally can’t afford the time for our precious Old Horizontal.

There will be some cellared kegs of Old Horizontal hitting tap handles at the pub in 2012.  Dates to be announced.

2nd And Final Release of Victory Dark Intrigue

Dark Wednesday as it is being called will be November 23rd at Victory Brewing’s Downingtown retail location.  This is the day that you will be able to purchase the 2nd annual release of Dark Intrigue – and also the final opportunity to do so.  Ever.  That’s right, Victory has stated that they will no longer be making Dark Intrigue after this year.  In fact, they are even selling the barrels used to age this brew for $40 each that same day.  You can purchase as many of these Jim Beam and Heaven Hill barrels as you would like, but you are limited to one case of Dark Intrigue per person.  The beer can also be purchased by the bottle starting at 11:30am, $15/bottle or $180/case.
