Terrapin Tree Hugger Goes Year Round In March

Terrapin Tree Hugger

Terrapin Beer Co (Athens, GA) created Tree Hugger last year for Decatur, Georgia’s Green Fest in support of the Dogwood Alliance. Terrapin brewmaster “Spike” started a love affair with the altbier style on a trip to Germany. The style originated in Dusseldorf. Spike came home to Athens, Georgia to create a hoppier play off this style.  A hoppy altbier named Tree Hugger. Draft offerings extended beyond the festival to tap handles around Georgia due to it’s popularity.

In 2013, Terrapin will promote Tree Hugger to year round status. It is actually the first brew on this week in the new 100 Barrel brewhouse. Look for it on draft and it bottles starting in March, 2013.

Style: Altbier
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: March, 2013

Terrapin To Can “Recreation Ale” in 2013

Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA) will release their first beer in a can in 2013. Recreation Ale is slated for release this May. To dispel a few rumors running around since Beer Street Journal announced the can addition. Recreation Ale will be the only beer arriving in cans 2013.  No other offerings have even been planned or even discussed.

Recreation Ale will be a “hopped up” session ale loosely based on its sibling Easy Rider. Low ABV, around 4.5% ABV. Terrapin wanted a beer you can take with you to the great outdoors – camping, hiking, etc. The usual (yet important) speil about the flexibility of beer in cans.

For this first year, the brewery is outsourcing the canning. Depending on a popularity, the brewery will consider purchasing a canning line.

Arrival: May, 2013

Terrapin Side Project #19: Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale

On shelves now is Terrapin Side Project #18: Liquid Bliss. Meet the follow up release coming in 2013 –  Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale. Brewer “Spike” has an affinity towards rye malt, so this comes a no surprise.

Freshly harvested from Hop Breeding Company, LLC in Yakima Valley, the hops used in Side Project 19 “Mosaic” came freshly picked from the fields of Perrault Farms, to our brewery, and into your glass. Known as hop HBC 369 before official naming in 2011, Mosaic is the daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14) and a Nugget-derived male. To get the best of all worlds from this new Humulus lupus, we used 100% Mosaic throughout the brewing process to utilize all the flavor and aroma that this world-class hop has to offer.

Style: Rye Beer
Hops: Mosaic
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: March, 2013
