SweetWater Brewing’s 2nd Annual Brew Your Cask Off was this past weekend, and for the second year in a row, one hell of time. Rain couldn’t slow down this even, with casks going empty even faster than last year. Without Continue Reading →
SweetWater Brewing’s latest beer from the side project/experimental/one off/reserve/specialty series has shipped. Bombers are hitting shelves, with draft not far behind. A special release party is headed your way too for those near Atlanta.
Mean Joe Bean is a hat tilt to the famous footballer Mean Joe Green. SweetWater & their real gift from writing describes this beer “Rodger the Dodger and his Imperial Porter bone offense didn’t stand a bat wing’s chance once we dipped our Nicaraguan bean sack through his facemask! We blindsided his 8.5% Alc/Vol jock strap back to the fields to pick more beans, resulting in this Immaculate con-Catch-tion of intense forearm shivers of chocolate malt, a body like the Bus and blitzes of gridiron hops, all clothes lined by intense coffee overtones. It’s so good that you’ll need your terrible towel to wipe the tears”
Release Party:
On Friday, March 4th, 2011 a release party will be held at Deckard’s American Tavern in downtown Atlanta. The party will feature Mean Joe Bean, both on draft and and beer engine. The “Dirty Nekkid” coffee that was used in beer will be available for those wanting to compare. Party kicks off at 6:30 pm. Expect some specialty glassware giveaways, and a drawing for Brew Your Cask Off tickets.
Availability: 22oz Bombers, draft. 1 time Dank Tank release. (for now)

ATLANTA — Football season never ends at SweetWater, hence the release of Mean Joe Bean, a bean-to-beer experiment and the latest in the rarely released randomness dubbed their Dank Tank series. These creations emerge from SweetWater’s dark side — brewed only when the itch gets so bad, they just have to scratch it – and they are few and far between

MEAN JOE BEAN DEBUTS AT DECKARD’S AMERICAN TAVERN
SweetWater Brewery’s Dank Tank Unleashes THIS FRIDAY — March 4th at 6:30 pm
ATLANTA — Football season never ends at SweetWater, hence the release of Mean Joe Bean, a bean-to-beer experiment and the latest in the rarely released randomness dubbed their Dank Tank series. These creations emerge from SweetWater’s dark side — brewed only when the itch gets so bad, they just have to scratch it – and they are few and far between.
Mean Joe Bean will be available in 22 ounce bottles and on draft. But, Brewniversity fans need to act fast because this will be off the field before you know it, with only the jersey off its back as a souvenir; it is the perfect pint for the porter drinker and coffee lover in all of us. The first “75” guests to order a Mean Joe Bean at Deckard’s American Tavern on Friday, March 4th beginning at 6:30pm will get a limited edition Dank Tank unique stemmed glass, and SweetWater will have a unique cask version of Mean Joe Bean from head brewer Nick Nock poured through the beer engine that night as well.
Staying true to their local roots, SweetWater brewers partnered with Atlanta coffee favorites JavaVino, located in the Highlands, to create this Imperial Porter brewed with coffee beans. This coffee and wine house brings in their signature coffee from Nicaragua and is produced by co-owner Heddy Kühl’s family. The Kühl Family picks the coffee beans, exports, imports, roasts and brews them right in Atlanta. For more on JavaVino and their sixth generation family coffee farm visit www.javavino.com. Steve and Heddy will be onsite at Deckard’s American Tavern with their “Dirty Nekkid Lady” coffee which was used in the brewing process.
As the name suggests, the tale of this beer is legendary. As their creative sense of history touts, “Rodger the Dodger and his Imperial Porter bone offense didn’t stand a bat wing’s chance once we dipped our Nicaraguan bean sack through his facemask! It’s so good that you’ll need your terrible towel to wipe the tears.”

ATLANTA: This fall SweetWater Brewing Company challenged Atlantans to jump on their bikes with Team SweetWater as they celebrated the mission of Camp Twin Lakes with a new brew, Crank Tank Rye’d Ale and their Fifth Annual Spin for Kids Fundraiser Oct. 23-24, 2010. The local boys created their latest beer to raise money and awareness for this non-profit organization dedicated to providing children with serious illness and special needs and their families a recreational outlet. Well, they did just that! Nearly 21K was donated on behalf of SweetWater Brewing Company to the camp as part of the over $280,000 raised through Spin For Kids as well as 30 GIANT mountain bikes for the campers and counselors to use at the camp.
“Camp Twin Lakes has made a profound impact on my life,” said Freddy Bensch — SweetWater’s Big Kahuna. “It provides a safe and nonjudgmental environment for children with illnesses and special needs — something they can’t always find in the real world. SweetWater is proud to connect with a great cause, participate, brew and most of all give back!”
