Stone Southern Charred (Barrel Aged Double Bastard) Returns

Stone Brewing Co’s Southern Charred is making a return soon. Charred is Stone’s Double Bastard (a strong ale) that spent 5 months in first use Kentucky bourbon barrels. That’s less time than the first release that was a blend of beer aged 13months, and 10 months in barrels.

The dark amber ale was brewed with a huge malt bill and a belligerent amount of hops making it a heavy, bitter beast of a beer.

Southern Charred joins the Bastard Box Set, Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard and Lukcy Basartd in recent releases.

Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged, Bourbon)
Availability: 500ml bottles. Draft. Very limited

Distribution: 2014 distro, TBA

11.2% ABV

Ed note: Updated with new barrel aging time.

Stone Brewing Co. Chooses Richmond, Virginia for East Coast Build

After much speculation, and even a law change to entice Stone Brewing Co. to South Carolina, the brewery has chosen Richmond, Virginia as their next home.

Today the brewery announced they have signed a letter of intent with the City of Richmond solidifying their interest in the build.

Here is what to expect:

  • 200,000 square foot production brewery & distribution facility on 14 acres
  • 250 barrel brewhouse
  • Renovation of 2-story, 30K square foot building to be restaurant (on 4 acres)
  • 288+ new jobs
  • Open late 2015, 2016 (World Bisto & Gardens will open year or more later)
  •  Year round brews and special east coast releases

The proposed site seen below, is near Williamsburg Avenue and Nicholson Street.

Project Stone 2014-09-08.psdFrom Stone Brewing Co. co-founder Steve Wagner:

“The search for our location east of the Mississippi River was no easy endeavor,” said Stone President and Co-founder Steve Wagner. “We received and reviewed hundreds of proposals, visited more than 40 sites, and received quite a bit of attention from communities and craft beer fans. The three finalist cities each provided diverse offerings, however, we decided to begin next-step negotiations with Richmond because of their ability to meet our extensive site requirements, subject to the city’s approval. We also feel that Richmond’s vibrant energy and impressive craft beer culture, along with the uniqueness of the property, will allow us to create a truly memorable Stone experience for our fans. We are honored by the amount of time and effort all the communities that submitted proposals put forth, and we want to specifically thank Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones for welcoming us.”

Stone Launches Enjoy After 10.31.15

As a flipside to Stone Brewing Co.’s Enjoy By Series, the brewery has launched a new IPA you are supposed to cellar. Stone Enjoy After 10.31.15 is a IPA spiked with the wild yeast Brettanomyces, that will develop and carbonate the beer over time. You are buying a beer you’ll drink a year from the day you buy it.

…Ideally, you’ll want to cellar the beer up to-or beyond-the Enjoy After date to help it reach its full evolutionary potential. At that point, some facets of the Brett characteristics will have mellowed, while others will have become more profound; it all matures into a fascinating and delicious culmination. Individual results will vary…and that’s both the beauty and the intent behind this beer.

Stone Enjoy After 10.31.15 is available in limited 750ml bottles.

Style: American Wild Ale
Availability: 750ml Bottles. Limited
Distribution Area: TBA

7% ABV, 88 IBUs

Stone Stochasticity Addition: Master of Disguise

Stone Brewing Co’s (Escondido, CA) Stochasticity Project is a select line of beers meant to focus on creation, and less on the brewery.  Each release in the lineup is unique brewing experiment, a meld of styles, or new approaches to tried and true styles. Coming soon to the Stochasticity Series lineup – Master of Disguise Imperial Golden Stout.

What? Golden stout? Master of Disguise is a golden-brewed imperial stout, with coffee and cocoa. Confusing or inventive? That’s your call.

Things aren’t always what they seem, but not all deception is devious. Some illusions and misnomers lead to life’s most delightful surprises. Case in point—this beer, the yang to the yin that is the black India pale ale. Once revolutionary for its onyx appearance, it is now an accepted and beloved member of the India pale ale family tree. Thus we took the spirit of a dark beer—the time-honored stout—and applied a similar science of thought, brewing it to be golden-hued. That is what this experimental series and its latest creation are all about. Cocoa and coffee beans impart roastiness sans darkening to this brew, while flaked oats provide an enveloping mouthfeel. The result is a stout that looks more like a blonde, but is a raven beauty at heart.

Stone Stochasticity Master of Disguise will be available in 22oz bombers.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Cocoa, Coffee)
Availability: 22oz Bombers
Arrival: TBA

8.8% ABV

Note: This is a “sneak peek.” Details, release date, or release at all, are subject to change at anytime by the brewery.
