Big Day For Sierra Nevada?

We all know that Sierra Nevada has been shopping for a new site on the east coast.  For the past few months, rumors have swirled around where they might go.  Tennessee, West Virginia, and North Carolina have been on the watch list.  Because everything has been rumor or speculation, I haven’t mentioned much about it, other than when a site has been ruled out.

Mills River, in Henderson County, North Carolina has emerged as the clear front runner, and by these recent reports, could be announced today.  There is apparently a 50 acre site near the French Broad River that just might be the new home to Sierra Nevada.  Incentive packages have been approved by Henderson County and Mills River for an anonymous manufacturing company that was coming to the area.

Interestingly, a local town councilman has received an invitation for to an announcement to be made at Ferncliff Industrial Park today with Governor Bev Perdue.   [Citizen-Times]

UPDATE: Confirmed. Asheville, NC it is.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Cans Roll Off The Line

I’m sure these have to be among the most anticpated cans coming out of a brewery this year.  Sierra Nevada mentioned today that Pale Ale cans are officially coming off the canning line.  Expected to hit shelves in February.   After Pale Ale, expect Torpedo tallboys.

Sierra Nevada Bourbon Quad Headed For Festivals

Be on the lookout for this at upcoming festivals.  Right now Sierra Nevada blending a bourbon barreled edition of Ovila Quad. Destined for festivals.   There are other bourbon barrel Sierra Nevada beers out in the wild, including Barrel Aged Trippel, and Bourbon Fritz & Kens.  Be on the lookout for a Barrel Aged Bigfoot this year too.

Note: A reader mentioned that this batch could be ANOTHER small batch edition of a Sierra Nevada Quadrupel.  Is it Ovila? Pure speculation that it is.  It’s been in the barrels for a while, which would have been around the same time Quad was bottled in preparation for shipment.  Pure speculation on our part.

Sierra Nevada Rouge 66

Sierra Nevada Rouge 66Coming soon from Sierra Nevada Rouge 66.  Atlanta AJC writer Bob Townsend & Green’s Beer Guru Adam Tolsma recently travelled to California to Sierra’s infamous Beer Camp to make this brew.

About Rouge:
The research and development team of pilot head brewer Scott Jennings and pilot brewer Mark Hurd guided our beer-making journey over a long day in and out of the brewhouse. We came up with a hybrid American/Belgian imperial red ale made with Patagonia caramel malt and a variety of hops, and fermented with a special Belgian yeast strain.

Style: Red Ale
Availability: Draft only

7.5% ABV

More on the beer trip, read up at AJC Blogs.  Thx to @CFreddie for heads up

UPDATE:  Taps at Brick Store Pub 3/1/12 at 6 pm!
