The fall means that Sierra Nevada (Chico, CA) will release Estate Ale, featuring hops and malts grown at the brewery’s farm. 2013 would have been no different if it wasn’t for the weather. Beer is an agricultural production (hops, barley, etc). The Sierra Nevada Estate barley had a rough go of it this year. Days of high winds, and too much rain made the barley crop impossible to brew with. There will be some happy cattle that are going to chow down on it though.
If you have never met a brewer before, know this. They always find a way to release a beer. Thus, meet DevESTATEtion, a black IPA homage to the lost crop. Using the Estate organic hops, and two row pale malt from Great Western Malting, DevESTATEtion Black IPA will arrive in September. RIP Sierra Nevada barley 2013.

Flipside Red IPA is a rebuttal to the mild-mannered beers of summer. Tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops are the perfect notes for this in-between season.

The next release of Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp is upon us. Lucky attendees make a pilgrimage to Chico, California all year long to try their hand at brewing. The best of the best make it into a sampler pack. This August, look these beers in the 2013 edition (See L-R):
#93 IPA–This IPA sacrifices nothing for its drinkability, flexing big time flavor and complexity. The light color disguises the depth of the malt backbone, a pillar that balances the potent whole-cones of the piney-citrus Cascade and tropical fruit-like Citra hops.
#94 Belgian-style Black IPA–This beguiling black IPA takes a tropical detour with a dose of new world hops, featuring lemony Sorachi Ace and fruity Nelson Sauvin varieties. A Belgian yeast works with the exotic hop profile, emphasizing its complex and fruity flavors.
#95 Imperial Red Ale–Our aggressive Imperial Red Ale is a massive mix of smooth malts and West Coast hops that have no patience for the lupulin leery. This crimson beer starts with caramel-like malt flavor that can’t suppress the assertive, citrusy hop finale.
Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Beers are available in 12oz/12 pack cases, and very limited draft offerings.
Styles: IPA, Belgian-Style Black IPA, & Imperial Red
Arrival: August, 2013
To celebrate the opening of the North Carolina brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewing is scheming up some beers featuring revered craft brewers across the country. One beer per brewery will be released in the summer of 2014 in a variety 12 packs. This will also include festivals with no specific path determined yet. The following breweries will be visiting Chico to develop recipes and brew:
“We want to highlight the success of craft beer, not just our own next step. Craft brewers are a close bunch, and we’ve all helped each other get to this point. This is a fun way to showcase even just a fraction of the talent that’s out there, and somehow 12 beers doesn’t feel like enough. If this weren’t already a logistical mammoth, we’d brew with even more of our great peers.” Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder.
