New Belgium Builds Offices, Living Spaces

New Belgium Brewing (Ft, Collins, CO) is expanding.  New plans have been submitted to the city to develop a 5 acre piece of land that New Belgium owns.  The new build will include a 16,500 square foot space across 2 buildings for offices, meeting rooms, and living spaces.  The living spaces dubbed “casitas” will be for “Beer Rangers” and other brewery employees that visit Ft. Collins.  There are around 100 people that currently travel the states in the name of New Belgium.

This expansion has no impact on New Belgium’s brewing capacity.  This is an opportunity to spread out a little bit, have more meeting rooms, and event space.  NB still has 10 more acres of undeveloped land in their possession. <Coloradoan>

New Belgium’s Hard Rockin Clutch

In yet another collaboration, New Belgium creates “Clutch”.  After consulting with some of New Belgium’s Beer Rangers, they are waiting on a briefing on the sour ale.  The artwork is sexy, the beer joins the Lips Of Faith collection.

Pure rock fury meets Belgian-style brewed folly in this collaboration with Maryland hard-rockers, clutch.  A pronounced bass line of dark chocolate, coffee and black malts bridge the sourness of our dark wood ale for a fluid riff.

Style: Dark Sour Ale.  (Flanders Oud Bruin?)

Availability: 22oz bombers, draft.

9% ABV

New Belgium & Elysian Create “Kick”

New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins, CO) is collaborating with Elysian Brewing (Seattle, WA).  This is a pumpkin-y beer, like the soon to be collaboration just announced by Stone Brewing & The Bruery.  “Kick” is bound for the Lips Of Faith series by NB.  The beer as the label reveals, is a funky pumpkin meets cranberry ale.  80% is an ale with pumpkin & cranberry juice.  20% is an ale aged in wooden barrels.  [Speculation: Elysian has a Dark Sour Pumpkin Ale that just appeared on RateBeer. Might have a relationship.]

We get a kick out of collaborating.  Havesting the creativity of Kim Jordan of New Belgium and Dick Cantwell of Elysian produced this ruby-hued, slightly sour, pumpkin, cranberry ale. It’s a treat that does the trick.

Style: Pumpkin Beer

Availability: 22oz bombers, draft.

8.5% ABV

Skinny Dip Out, Somersault Up

You’re going to start seeing New Belgium Brewing’s Somersault on shelves if you haven’t already.  Somersault is new by New Belgium, replacing Skinny Dip.  Skinny was once called loft before it was changed to Skinny Dip in 2006.  Somersault arrives for summer, lightly spiced with apricot & ginger.

Somersault Ale was designed to be a fun roll around on the tongue while requiring only the minimum of palate gymnastics. In other words, this perfect summer lounge around beer is ridiculously fun and easy to drink. Even though the second Somersault goes down as effortlessly the first, our brewer Grady actually has quite a few remarkable notes at play in the nose, flavor and mouthfeel. There is an opening brace of citrus aroma from Centennial hops, a soft apricot fruitiness tucked into the flavor, a fresh snap from a sliver of ginger root, finished with oats in a long cool mash. Color is blonde with a suggestion of cloudiness. Somersaults all around!

Style: American Blonde Ale
Hops: Centennial
Malts: Pale, Caramel, Oats
Extra: Ginger, apricot

Taste Expectations: Fruity, citrus, light malts.  Floral, herbally, light.
Availability: 12oz/6pks, Draft. May-September. Seasonally.

5.7% ABV

New Belgium Super Cru & Abbey Grand CruNow Available

New Belgium Brewing celebrates 20 years of beer making with an homage to Fat Tire.  The beer is Super Cru.   It’s a Fat Tire makeover – a double edition.  Double the hops, double the malts.  After the doubling, New Belgium added pear juice and saison yeast.

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Taste Expectations: Fruits; apples & pear juice.  Malts are biscuity, light & slightly toasty.  Funky saison yeast adds interesting complexity.
Availability:  22oz bombers, Draft. One time release.

10% ABV

Also arriving with Super Cru is NB’s Abbey Grand Cru. Brewed every 1,000th batch.  Abbey Grand Cru celebrates New Belgium’s popular Abbey Ale, with increased hops, malts and fermentation time. It is fermented with an authentic Belgian yeast strain and is refermented in the bottle to produce natural carbonation.  Abbey Grand Cru cellars well too.

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Taste Expectations: Bready & caramel malts mixing with dark fruits. Raisins, banana & clove. Complex.
Availability: 220z Bombers, rare draft. Again, brewed every 1,000 batches.

9.4% ABV
