More Wood For New Belgium

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) is adding 32 new French Oak foeders to the brewery. That will bring the count to 64. A foeder is a large wooden tank used to sour the beer.

This addition will double the production of sour ale offerings in the coming years.

“With this expansion, we’ll get so close to that feeling I had the first time I walked through the forest of foeders at Rodenbach,” said New Belgium’s Wood Cellar Manager/Blender, Lauren Salazar. “Just knowing they’re all full of souring beer – ALL of them – is exciting. It’s a destination. Something you have to experience first hand.”

Tart Lychee and Eric’s Ale are expected to be in year round production by 2015. Over the next few months, the brewery will be rehydrating the barrels, and inoculating them with various wild yeasts. They will then age beer for nearly two years before bottling/kegging.

No More Boats. It’s Ping Pong Now

New Belgium is updating the artwork for all their products in 2014. Blue Paddle, their pilsner will get an update too – from the canoe to a blue ping pong paddle.

Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. ‘Blue Paddle’ refers to the implement our warehouse manager’s Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

Fans of the beer don’t overlook the beer in the change up. Below is the soon-to-be old school artwork.

New Belgium’s Winter Seasonal Hits Shelves

Don’t put down that Pumpkick just yet, but New Belgium’s winter seasonal is hitting shelves.

Accumulation White India Pale Ale went on sale in a couple of states today. This is the first release of this seasonal brew.  White IPAs are brewed with a large amount of wheat malt. Wheat softens the mouthfeel, making the beer smoother, creamier.

ACCUMULATION White IPA was inspired by the white beauty that falls each winter from our Colorado sky. Flurries of Mosaic and Amarillo hops bring soft fruit and citrus flavor, followed by a layer of bitter. Piled high in IBUS, Accumulation will make your winter brighter.

Style: White IPA
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft

6.2% ABV
