Jester King Gets New Distributor

Jester King will now be sold in Texas through Flood Distribution, a new distributor in the state that is focused just on artisanal beer, wine and spirits.

While Flood Distributing can distribute Jester King beers widely across Texas, the brewery laments it doesn’t have a lot of product ready. (Hey, it’s small craft brewing.)

Availability in the state will be sporadic for a while. Flood is based in Austin, with a second warehouse in planning in the Houston area. Distribution coverage includes Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and surrounding areas, including Dallas/Fort Worth (limited basis).

Jester King’s 2nd Sour. A Unique Process

Jester King Brewery (Texas) is soon to release their second barrel aged sour- Omniscience & Proselytism. Let’s tackle the big words first. Omniscience means “knowing it all” and Proselytism “is the act of converting one to another religion or opinion.” Perhaps this all knowing beer is meant to convert those unknowing to the sour/wild side.

O & P has all Texas fruit, namely strawberries from Fredericksburg, Texas. The fruit was added in April, then refermented in oak ever since. This is important. Jester King wants the strawberries to come in contact with the microorganisms to break down sugars and create new flavors and compounds. These Texas organisms are unique to the brewery and surrounding area. You can’t recreate this beer anywhere else.

Only about 500 bottles of this beer will be made available.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Strawberries)
Availability: 500 ml bottles
Arrival: 10/27/13

5% ABV

Jester King Tries Old Swedish Recipe

Jester King chose to use an ancient Swedish farmhouse ale recipe calledGotlandsdricka as an inspiration for their latest release Viking Metal. This beer features juniper and Myrica gale. Due to modern brewing methods they don’t claim the recipe to be entirely accurate, but they anticipate it to be closer than a test version they brewed last summer.

“After primary fermentation with farmhouse yeast, we racked the beer to oak barrels previously containing Old Tom gin and inoculated it with mature barrel aged beer, containing wild yeast and souring bacteria. After seven months of oak fermentation and maturation, we blended the barrels and naturally conditioned the beer for an additional six weeks prior to release.”

Style: Farmhouse Ale
Availability: 750 mL bottles, Draft
Arrival: April 2013

7.4% ABV

Jester King Salt Lick: Wood Smoked Saison

Jester King Salt Lick

Jester King (Austin, TX) continues to push the flavor boundaries with Salt Lick, a smoked saison. The beer is a collaboration of sorts. A portion of the malt was smoked over pecan wood  at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas.

First came the witches, and soon after there were vampires. They came in droves and each time one popped up it seems to be better looking then the last., each polished to a blinding luster. For a brief moment even werewolves even had there moment in the spotlight, plucked and preened to studio perfection. Then, to our astonishment, monsters comprised of nothing more than smoke joined this pop phenomenon – and that we couldn’t resist.

Style: Saison (Partially Oak Aged, Smoked)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

6.7% ABV
