Jester King & Mikkeller’s Barrel Aged Weasel Rodeo Also Available

Jester King/Mikkeller Barrel Aged Weasel Geek RodeoA smidge earlier than Jester King expected,

is their Barrel Aged Weasel Rodeo. The barrel aged edition of the Mikkeller collaboration spent 6 months getting funky in whiskey barrels.

Whiskey Barrel Rodeo (12.0% ABV) is the barrel aged version of Jester King / Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo, an unfiltered, unpasteurized, naturally carbonated Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with chipotle peppers, smoked malt and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak Coffee and fermented with farmhouse yeast. After being brewed with Mikkeller at Jester King in November of 2011, Whiskey Barrel Rodeo spent six months aging in whiskey barrels followed by another three months of bottle conditioning. Unlike most of our barrel aged beers where we use barrel aging to impart funky, sour flavors and aromas, Whiskey Barrel Rodeo was aged in whiskey barrels to impart flavors of oak, vanillin and residual whiskey.

This beer is limited to  100 cases (1200 750ml bottles)

Jester King/Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo Released

Jester King’s collaboration with MikkellerWeasel Rodeo has shipped this week according to the brewery. The beer is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with chipotle peppers, smoked malt and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak coffee and fermented with farmhouse yeast.

Look for the 750 ml bottles in Texas, Alabama, and Denmark.

Bottles of Jester King / Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo have left our brewery and will begin making their way throughout Texas and to Denmark. We also sent a small amount to Alabama, along with several of our other beers, in celebration of the State’s long-awaited legalization of 750ml bottles, starting the first of this month.

Weasel Rodeo (10.1% ABV) is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with chipotle peppers, smoked malt and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak coffee and fermented with farmhouse yeast.

While some retailers in Texas should begin receiving Weasel Rodeo very soon, we ask for your patience as we rely upon a small, artisanal wine distributor to bring our beer to market.

Jester King Soon To Release 1 Year Old Bonnie The Rare

Those lucky enough to get offerings from Jester King, one of the best breweries in Texas, will have this soon. Bonnie The Rare Berliner Weisse, a bottle conditioned, sour, German style offering that has spent more than a year conditioning in the bottle.

Bonnie the Rare (3.7% ABV) is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned Berliner Weisse that’s undergone a long term maturation process in the bottle. Brewed in May of 2011, Bonnie has been allowed to mature in the bottle for over a year, slowly developing a delicate acidity and intense yogurty, lactic character. A no boil method of brewing was adopted to couple the yogurty character with a starchy wheat malt profile. We hope you enjoy this well aged, peculiar, little beer.

Style: Berliner Weisse
Availability: 750 ml bottles

3.7% ABV

Jester King On Their Beer Outside Of Texas

Jester King Craft Brewery (Austin, Texas) is really making a name for themselves. Everyone I know that steps foot in the state starts looking for it. Recently, some Jester King has been sited outside of the state. (In a semi-official capacity.) That caused rumors to circulate around Jester entering those states. Here’s the bottom line on recent appearances, from the source:

… this shipment like those that preceded it, does not mark our permanent entry into any out of state markets, or any kind of promise as to the ongoing availability of our beers anywhere outside of Texas. It means simply that we had a little extra beer that we were able to share, and did what we could to get it to some folks outside our region, who we thought might enjoy it. Moving forward, when we have more beer that we can spare, we will very likely do much the same thing, but at this point, we really can’t say when or how often that’s likely to be.

Fingers crossed. Who knows where you might see them next. If only for a minute. [JesterKing]

Jester King & Mikkeller’s Whiskey Barrel Rodeo

Introducing a barrel aged edition of Jester King/Mikkeller’s Weasel Rodeo. Why weasel? The original beer was based off of Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch, brewed with Kopi Luwak coffee. Weasel Barrel Rodeo is an oatmeal stout, brewed with chipotle peppers, Kopi Luwak coffee, then aged in whiskey barrels.

Inside the hops and staves of oaken whiskey barrels, magical things can sometimes happen. Even ancient enemies like weasels and rodeo clowns can overcome their conflicts and learn to work together as one. Feral monkeys are a different story, though.  It turns out that even in barrels, they’re really not much fun at all.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ coffee, chipotle peppers, Barrel Aged)
Hops:  Millenium, Saaz, Cascade, Columbus
Malts:  Mans Otter, dark crystal malt, brown malt, chocolate malt, smoked malt

Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: August, 2012

10.1% ABV

Jester King thinks this beer could be the most expensive sold in Texas… or another, it means that the whiskey barrel aged version, which we’re calling “Whiskey Rodeo” is now going to be the most ludicrously expensive beer ever sold in the State of Texas, and this initial batch of non whiskey barrel aged Whiskey Rodeo will be a little less so. Seriously, if you’re thinking of buying a bottle of Whiskey Rodeo, start saving now. Kopi Luwak costs over $200/lb (as compared with Legendee which costs a mere $35/lb).

Weasel Rodeo is the Next Jester King/Mikkeller Collab

Jester King Weasel Rodeo

Weasel Rodeois the 2nd collaboration between Jester King and Mikkeller. (First was Ale/Malt Liquor In TX’ Geek Brunch.)  This new weasel is based of Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, a beer brewed with “weasel coffee,” the most expensive coffee in the world.  You might have heard it called “poop coffee” because the kopi luwak “weasel” eats the berries of the plant, and excretes the coffee beans.   Vietnamese roaster, Trung Nguyen, provided the Kopi Luwak coffee.  Weasel Rodeo is brewed with smoked malt and ground chipotle pepper.

Why, upon seeing a testosterone-fueled beast angrily thrashing about, did someone once think, “Betcha I can stay on that horse longer ‘n you.” How come the first time a searing hot pepper was popped into a mouth it wasn’t the last? And what about stepping in coffee bean-studded weasel poo provoked the human brain to ask the unreasonable question, “Reckon’ diesel’ make a decent cup of Joe?’ Even beer itself began with the thought, “Let’s squeeze the liquid out of those soggy, sprouting grains, leave it around for a few days until it starts to smell funny, and then drink it.” When the curious urge to do seemingly stupid things doesn’t kill us, it can sometimes yield bizarre and splendid results. Bottoms up! Jester King Craft Brewery is an authentic farmhouse brewery in the beautiful ‘Texas Hill Countty, on the outskirts of Austin. We brew what we like, drink what we want and offer the rest to those who share our tastes.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ coffee, chipotle peppers)
Hops:  Millenium, Saaz, Cascade, Columbus
Malts:  Mans Otter, dark crystal malt, brown malt, chocolate malt, smoked malt

Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: Draft already debuted. Bottles? August, 2012.
