Per Success Is Not An Option:

This label began life as a confusion between this Man o’ War and this Man o’ War. Eventually both kinds got included. Also, if you look carefully, you will see a goddamn giant kraken.

This beer is only going to be available at the Floyds facility in Indiana, but it is certainly worth a short road trip. And before you ask, yes, actual oysters are involved in the brewing process and it’s not as gross as I assumed it would be when I heard that.

Half Acre Remembers When It Was Easier Being A Kid

Half Acre Hammer Bullet ViseDo you remember when growing seemed a little simpler?  Kids could get in fights after school without going to jail, you could bring a plastic knife in your lunchbox without going to jail, you could skip school without going to jail.   Half Acre Brewing does.  On Friday the Chicago based brewery debuts  The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise.  The beer is a reminder of a simpler time when kids were free to be kids, before Facebook, cellphones, bike helmets and a claustrophobic false sense of security.

There was a time when children ran around loose and fearless, getting filthy and being perfectly reckless. Kids kicked the crap out of each other and instantly let it go, they built unsafe structures to call their own and lived far more free of the burden of being broken. At some point helmets took over, little hands made cel phone calls to check in and parental reign created a claustrophobic, false sense of safety.

In remembering a time when kids ran wild, we brewed The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise.  A nutty and soft english brown beer brewed with all German malts to lull your mind.  This beer will be a draft only release to be had by the growler fill at our brewery. We will post when this beer is available.

Style: English Style Brown Ale
Availability: Draft only, on tap at the brewery 2/10

Half Acre’s Cipher Is A Beer & A Hidden Code

Half Acre Brewing CipherHalf Acre Brewing will be releasing Cipher in the coming weeks.  The name is an homage to something you use everyday but might not think about – computer code.

Computers dominate even the most basic of tasks. Almost everyone uses a device that can do amazing things to connect us to information and people. These tasks are carried out by simple or complex computing devices that rely on code. Code consists of basic numbers or letters that are arranged to form very complex ideas. You use code everyday. Code is running in and around us all the time.

Cipher will be a Belgian blond with a little technology mixed in.   Working with @c7five, the label contains code.  If you can solve the code you can win prizes.  Release dates to follow.  Note: The cipher will only be on the bottles. It’s not pictured above…

Half Acre Daly Double Arrives Friday

Half Acre Brewing is in the process of brewing Daly Double, made in memoriam of a friend Terry Daly.  He died recently, and suddenly.

Terry was a fan of music, geometry, his two Huskies, Moon & Luna, and amply hopped craft beer.  We’re pretty sure that Terry was the foremost consumer of Daisy Cutter Pale Ale. Terry began popping in to buy sixtels of Daisy and before long he stopped by almost everyday just to chew the fat. After a while, he had the authority to walk back into the brewery and go into the cold room to reserve himself kegs and manage his own kegerator inventory for his home Daisy Cutter supply. Being a bright dude, we put him to work wiring things or lending a hand doing whatever needed to be done. He’d turn others on to our beer and took pride in his connection to our brewery.  All good breweries acquire people. These people become the larger body that is the meat of your brewing company. Not the tanks or the beers, but the heart of what we do. It has a pulse of its own and its one of the best things about brewing beer for a living.  The Daly Double is for Terry and all the other folks that give breweries life . To Terry, Huzzah!

Style: IPA
Availability: 22oz bombers. Growler fills.
Arrival: Friday January 6, 2012.  12 noon.

Half Acre Heads To Philly

In 2012 the City of Brotherly Love will be among the lucky ones who will be able to buy Half Acre Beer.  Gabriel Magliaro of Half Acre has come to an agreement with Bella Vista Distribution to bring Half Acre to Eastern Pennsylvania.  However, do not expect to see all of this Chicago brewer’s beers appear on shelves in PA.  Only some of the beers will be distributed and they will not be widely available.  Why ship to the Philly area then?  Matt and Gabriel of Half Acre Beer grew up in the area.

So what and when you ask?  Well, at first there will only be Daisy Cutter draft offerings – before the end of this year!  Down the road there is the potential for some cans to make their way out of the Chicagoland area if they ever have any left over.

Lucky ducks.
