Dogfish Head Johnny Cask 75 Minute IPA To See Bottles

Dogfish Head Johnny CaskYou take Dogfish Head 60 Minute and mix it with 90 Minute, add a little maple syrup, and you have 75 Minute IPA -aka Johnny Cask.  I can’t believe I first mentioned the appearance of this beer over 2 years ago.  Finally, this beer will see more glasses.  It’s headed for 750ml bottles.   The maple syrup is the same from the Calagione Family Farm, the same syrup used in Life & Limb.  Cask made it’s debut March 26th, 2009 at what DFH called a “Simul-Cask” event.  Simultaneous casks tapped at the brewpub, in Philly, Manhattan, & Boston.  It has made various appearances since then.  The bottle artwork has little addendum. Groucho glasses on the image of Johnny Cash… (See original artwork below)

There are some situations when 90 is too much.  There are other situations when 60 is too little.  There are many situations when 75 is juuust right. Bottle conditioned with pure maple syrup for complexity and age-ability and dry hopped out the bejeezum boards.

Availability: 750ml bottles.  Draft (pub)
Arrival: March, 2012

7.5% ABV

More On Dogfish Head’s Faithfull Ale Release

As a Pearl Jam and Dogfish Head fan, I can’t be more excited to hold a bottle in my hand.  Here are some more details on the availability of the upcoming release of Dogfish Head Faithfull Ale. Cheers!

As with many of our new beer releases, we’ve had a lot of interest in when and where folks will be able to grab & enjoy Faithfull Ale. Here’s what we can share at this point.

Ideally, we will sell this beer in all 27 U.S. states in which we currently do business — but that may not happen. We have applied for state approval in all 27 of those states (full list here). For a variety of reasons, some states may not approve this beer for sale. Some may only approve draft sales. That is all out of our hands. Since this is a brand-new release, we only recently applied to these states – but approvals have already begun rolling in.

Once we get approval from a state, Faithfull Ale will be added to the next outgoing order for each wholesaler. This means that the beer will be leaving our Milton, DE brewery in waves over the next few weeks. Once it travels to a wholesaler in a particular state, it will then need to travel to retailers throughout their sales territory. We cannot tell you exactly which day it will appear on the shelves in your area (assuming you are in one of the 27 U.S. states where we do business). We do not plan to export any of this beer outside of the U.S.

Beginning Wednesday, October 19th we will beging selling Faithfull Ale from our brewery Tasting Room in Milton, DE and our brewpub in downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE. Here’s how that will happen:

Sales from the Brewery Tasting Room in Milton, DE will begin at 11am on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Bottles of Faithfull Ale will retail for $12.50, and there is a 2-bottle-per-person limit.

Sales from our to-go kiosk at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE will begin at noon on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Bottles of Faithfull Ale will retail for $12.50, and there is a 2-bottle-per-person limit.

We will not reserve, hold or maintain a list for this beer. Faithfull Ale will be available first-come, first-serve from our brewery & brewpub. We have no idea how long our supply will last.

Although we are keeping some of the batch to sell from our brewery & brewpub, the vast majority of this beer will be sold through our wholesale and retail partners. Once the beer begins hitting the retailers and as the wholesalers update their sales data with our database, Faithfull Ale will appear on our Fish Finder. Please note that the database shows where our beers have been delivered to retailers in the past 60 days. The Fish Finder cannot show if it is still in stock, so it is always best to call & confirm first before travelling any significant distance in search of a beer.

We’re tried to answer any and all questions here. There are probably some we haven’t addressed (we’ll add to this article if necessary). We’ve been getting lots and lots of calls, emails, posts and tweets about Faithfull Ale. If we’ve missed replying to yours, we’re sorry.

And in keeping with the music theme, we also recently announced we’ll be re-releasing batches of the Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew and Robert Johnson-inspired Hellhound On My Ale. Both of those beers will begin shipping to wholesalers beginning with orders next week. You’ll be able to find them in stores over the next few weeks as well.

Thanks for all your interest in our beers, we hope you enjoy ‘em. Cheers!

Dogfish Faithfull Ale Releases Mid October

Milton, DE) — Faithfull Ale is a celebration of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary as a band and its extraordinary debut album, “Ten.” In recognition of these milestones, this Belgian-style golden ale is delicately hopped to 20 IBUs and fruit-forward from 10 incremental additions of black currants over a one-hour boil. Faithfull will clock in at 7% ABV.

“To me, ‘Ten’ is the perfect example of a record-lover’s-record. The whole thing rocks,” says Dogfish Head President & Founder Sam Calagione. “As an off-centered brewery, we believe in celebrating the breadth of our whole portfolio and we feel an affinity for Pearl Jam a long-player band in a singles-obsessed world.”

Dogfish Head also finds inspiration in Pearl Jam’s ethics, community-building and commitment to putting music before commerce. In recognition of this refreshing approach, Dogfish is donating $20,000 to The Nature Conservancy to aide in its efforts to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth.

Dogfish Head is also rereleasing its previous collaborations with Sony Legacy: the Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew and the Robert Johnson shoutout Hellhound on My Ale. All three collaborations will be available this month in 750-ml bottles and on draft.

We plan to send Faithfull Ale to all states in which we currently do business, pending each state’s approval.

Bluegrass Brewing Hires Dogfish Head Brewer

Bluegrass Brewing Company, Louisville, KY, has taken a step in the right direction when trying to revitalize their company.  They have recently hired Jeremy Hunt, former head brewer at Dogfish Head Brewery, Milton, DE.  Hunt has an impressive brewing resume including Mercury Brewing Company and Red Hook Brewing where he spent time prior to his last three years at Dogfish.

Jeremy left Dogfish Head in hopes to get back to the creativity of the beer.  He enjoyed his time working for “mad scientist” Sam Calagione, but feels that he will have more opportunity to be creative with the brewing process at a smaller operation like Bluegrass Brewing.  He would like to focus on food and beer pairings as well as barrell aging.  Jeremy’s first day will be 11/1/11.

More 120, More Olde School

Dogfish has some good news for the lovers of 120 min (Imperial IPA, 18% ABV) and Olde School Barleywine (15% ABV)… There’s more en route

Fresh of the success of yesterday’s 2011 Dogfish Dash (we had a great time and raised $33,500 for the Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy thanks to the 1800 runners, sponsors, volunteers and spectators who made it all happen!), we excited to share some more great news with you…

Beginning today, we’re shipping an extra batch of 120 Minute IPA to our wholesale partners! Yes, this is an addition to the expected November release. The beer will be shipped to wholesalers (where it is legal to to sell… sorry that means only draft in TX and CA) beginning today and may take a few weeks to hit their wharehouses, then retail shelves & taps.

And there’s more! We’re also shipping our 2011 batch of Olde School Barleywine to wholesalers beginning this week.

We hope you are able to get your hands on some. Both of these beers are great aging candidates, so if you can – grab a few bottles… enjoy one now and stash the rest in a cool, dark spot (and try real hard to forget about them for a good, long while).

Cheers!

Dogfish To Bottle Ta Henket, Featured On Brewmasters

In more history meets beer, Dogfish Head is planning to bottle Ta Henket.  This “wheat ale” has only been available on draft before.

Ta Henket is brewed with Za’ atar (a blend of herbs, sesame seeds, & salt,) Doum Fruit (a sacred fruit found in tombs of pharoahs) and Chamomile.  Of course this beer wouldn’t be complete without some free range Eqyptian yeast.

Ta Henket was featured on Episode 5 of the ill fated Brewmasters show that aired on Discovery Channel.

Working with our archeologist friend Dr. Pat McGovern, this beer was created to incorporate the ancient ingredients and techniques described in Egyptian hieroglyphics. It was brewed to 11.4Plato with Emmer (an ancient form of wheat) and loaves of hearth baked bread and flavored with dom-palm fruit, chamomile, and zatar. Fermentation was carried out by a native Egyptian saccharomyces yeast strain captured by Sam and Floris during a recent trip to Egypt.

Availability: 750ml bottles, Draft

Arrival: TBA

4.5% ABV
