Bell’s Hopslam Mini Kegs in 2010

Still working on verifying with Bell’s Brewing, but the talk on BeerAdvocate.com & Beernews.org is that Bell’s Brewing (Kalamazoo, MI) will be releasing Hopslam in the “Oberon Style” mini keg’s this year. Bell’s just completed a 5+ million dollar expansion, adding extra tanks & capacity. Hopslam made it’s first debut in Atlanta last winter. I get weekly questions asking when it will return. Looks like this year it will be returning not only on draft and in bottle, but also in mini-kegs.

More info to follow. I have multiple calls and emails into the proper Bell’s authorities.

COMING SOON: Bell’s Batch 10,000

Coming soon from Bell’s Brewing is Batch 10,000.  Details about this batch have yet to be released.  One thing has been revealed, that Bell’s will discontinue these Batch series brews after the soon to be released 10,000.

In case you didn’t know, these commemorative batches have been released every 1,000 as a one time brew.  “Batch” refers to number of brews as it were. (1,000th batch of beer, 4,354th batch of beer etc.)   If you look at the back of each bottle of Bell’s beer there is a number.  Swing over the brewery website, and you can input that number and it will tell you when that beer was brewed, and what it is.

These commemorative beers change by style each time they are released.  9,000 was an American strong ale.   8,000 – witbier. 7,000 – imperial stout.  Other years include barleywines, and old ales.  They are fun one time beers that typically get a great response from the drinking community.  Sad to see them go.

More info to come.  Estimated release date – AFTER the September release of 25th Anniversary.

NOW TAPPING: Bell’s Oarsmen

Here’s a rare one.  Bell’s Oarsmen hasn’t been in Atlanta before now.  It was first bottled September of last year.   It’s a berliner weisse with a lot of wheat malt.  According to the brewery, a sour mashing method was used to give this beer some tart flavor.

Taste Expectations: The wheat shines through in this beer.  It’s tart and becomes a bit more tart as it’s drank.  Some bready flavor.  Very sessionable.

Bell’s Hopslam Tapping!

Looking for Bell’s Hopslam?  Keep missing the rare kegs that are popping up around Atlanta?  Heres another chance!  Today at Taco Mac Metropolis – the infamous Hopslam.   Taps 6 pm.

Quick Recap –

Bell’s Hopslam is a double IPA or Imperial IPA released seasonally, and is very limited.  Bell’s only produces this beer for a little over a month and half each year.   In many cities, it sells out fast, leaving many people without.  The name pretty much tells you what to expect — a Hopslam.   This beer has an absolutely fantastic hop aroma.  If you love the smell of hops, you are definitely in the right place.  Expect piney and grapefruit hop tones on your palette.  While it has a slight bitter finish, Hopslam really reminds you first and foremost that hops are a flower.  Honey is added to sweeten the finish.

See you at 6 PM!  Another DIPA – Dogfish Head – Burton Baton is tapping also.
