Ravens Win. Time For Anchor Brewing To Sport Purple

The Monday morning hangover. Baltimore Ravens take the trophy and and the glory. In the beer world, a bet was made between Anchor Brewing and Flying Dog. The bet? Loser wears the opposing teams colors all week, AND pour their beer.

Looks like Anchor’s tap room will be a little more purple. As friend just put it – hopefully less stabby. I’ll leave that one alone.

Flying Dog is already gloating a bit…

Flying Dog Brewmaster Makes Bowl Bet with Anchor

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Flying Dog has made a little beer bet. The Dog’s brewmaster Matt Brophy is sure The Ravens will take down Anchor Brewing beloved 49ers. The stakes? The loser pours the Har-bowl winner’s beer for a week in the tap room wearing the winner’s jersey.

We get one opportunity in life, one chance at life to do whatever you’re going to do, and lay your foundation and make whatever mark you’re going to make,” Brophy said. “Whatever legacy you’re going to leave; leave your legacy!”

This isn’t his first football/beer bet Matt Brophy has made. Similar bets with Adam Avery (Avery Brewing/Broncos) and Al Marzi of Harpoon (Patriots) were made too. He’s on a roll. The showdown is Sunday.

2012 Marks Anchor Christmas Ale’s 38th Year

Anchor Brewing Company officially announced their  Christmas Ale for 2012. This year marks year #38 for the brew. That’s 38 recipes. Each label is as different as the beer itself, each label is a hand drawn tree.

Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. For this year’s Christmas Ale, we have selected the Norfolk Island pine. Captain Cook discovered this South Seas isle and its native tree in 1774. These tropical-looking conifers, which thrive in sandy soil and coastal climes, were first planted in California in the 1850s. The Norfolk Island pine on this year’s label resides in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Anchor Christmas Ale is very cellarable, so drink some now, and some for years to come

Style: Winter Warmer
Availability: 12oz bottles, 1.5 L bottles, Draft. Nov – January. Seasonally

Anchor Brewing Company Announces Christmas Ale for 2012 (PR)

Anchor Brewing Company announces the release of our Christmas Ale for 2012, an Anchor tradition now in its thirty-eighth year.

Every year since 1975, the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer have created a distinctive Christmas Ale. The Ale’s recipe is different every year — as is the hand drawn tree on the label — but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life.

Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew. For this year’s Christmas Ale, we have selected the Norfolk Island pine. The Norfolk Island pine on this year’s label resides in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

When properly stored, our Christmas Ale remains intriguing and drinkable for years to come. Over time, different nuances emerge as the beer’s flavors mellow slightly, much like the memories of great holiday seasons past. We invite you to take part in one of our most treasured traditions and enjoy Christmas Ale as you create new memories this holiday season.

Anchor’s Christmas Ale is available nationally in 6-packs and magnums (1.5L), and on draught from early November to mid-January.

A Magnum-Sized Celebration to Honor 41 Years of Brewing (PR)

On September 30, 1971, Mark Carpenter joined Anchor Brewing Company as one of five employees. In the decades that followed, Mark played a key role in developing the many innovative beers that were produced at Anchor.

And upon becoming brewmaster in 2010, Mark has continued that innovation — starting with the release of Brekle’sTM Brown in 2011, and with the 2012 introduction of the Zymaster® Series, a unique series of beers rooted in its exceptional respect for the ancient art and noble traditions of brewing. The inaugural beer in the series, Zymaster Series No. 1: California Lager, was released in February 2012.

This past July, Zymaster Series No. 2: Mark’s Mild was released in draught only. To commemorate Mark’s 41st anniversary, we’re releasing a limited edition magnum (1.5 Liters) of Mark’s Mild. Beginning Monday, October 1st, Mark’s Mild magnums will be sold only through the Taproom at our brewery while supplies last. Mark’s Mild is inspired by the British Mild style, lower in alcohol, but high in flavor. This brew has a malty sweetness with hints of chocolate, nuts, caramel and toffee, and a smooth, thirst-quenching finish, proving the notion that beer doesn’t have to be extreme to be interesting.

Anchor Brewing Company is proud to have Mark Carpenter as our brewmaster and friend. We invite you to raise your Anchor and help us celebrate.
