New York Restores Tax Exemption

Craft brewers in New York state can rejoice, as the tax exemption fight has ceased in New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state Legislature not only restored a per-gallon tax exemption eliminated by a lawsuit from a rival Massachusetts brewer, but New York is increasing its bet on an industry that’s flourishing despite a slow overall economic recovery. The package of laws announced Wednesday will even allow farmers to sell craft beer at farmers’ markets.

Fight over.  You may now go about your business.

Mikkeller Invasion IPA Bottled at Anchorage [Video]

A quick look inside the inner workings of a brewery.  Mikkeller, a Danish gypsy brewer, just bottled Invasion IPA at Anchorage Brewing.  So named, because it’s the first time Mikkeller has bottled their own creations (not collaborations with other U.S. brewers) on American soil.

Fans Choose Citra For Next Sixpoint Autumnation Brew

Sixpoint recently ran a poll to see which hop its fans wanted to see in their fall seasonal.  Come this fall, Autumnation will be wet hopped (fresh hopped with just picked hops) with Citra hops.

Our Autumnal brew is made with subtle pumpkin and spice, but its prominent feature is the fresh harvested “wet-hops” that are added. New hop strain and selection every year.

Style: Pumpkin Beer
Availability: Cans, Draft.  Fall seasonal.

88 Year Old Grandma Rocks a Thong For Ethel’s Brew

In one of the most interesting viral ads for a brewery to date, meet Ethel’s Brew.  The brand is centered around Ethel, and 88 year old single lady in New York.  She’s a widow now, as her husband Burt past away.  Ethel is single and ready to mingle.  The campaign is as funny as it’s disturbing.  There’s a lot tight clothing, leopard prints, even a thong pic or two.

The beer isn’t available that we know of.  Yet.  By the looks of it, there are a few offerings prime and ready to go.  Just like Ethel.  She’s here to remind everyone – go out with a bang.

RIP, Burt.

Metal Band Motorhead Launches Own Beer

The English rock band Motorhead, especially known for songs like Ace Of Spades, now has their own beer – Bastards Lager. The beer is currently making its debut in Sweden.  The new rockin lager is described as crisp and slightly fruity, with a hint of citrus.

“Motorhead Bastards Lager is a gloriously fresh and fruity beer with a wonderful character of light malt. It’s easy to drink but has a hard rock edge. It’s perfect for all those occasions when you feel that craving for a cold beer such as those summer barbecues and picnics, naturally with music pumping at full blast through the loudspeakers. This Bastard has a refreshing, zesty taste with a nice malt curve and a hint of citrus. A quality beer that can be appreciated by rock ‘n’ roll fans of all ages.”

This isn’t the band’s first alcoholic beverage. The band already has a Shiraz wine, a rose on the way, along with a vodka.  They aren’t the only rock band bring out wines recently.  AC/DC and Slayer both have done the same.  Slayer’s red wine is dubbed Reign in Blood, so named for one of their most popular and demonic songs.  AC/DC has a few wines – included Highway To Hell, Hells Bells, & more.

As for Motorhead’s Bastard Lager? Only Sweden for now. You’ll have to settle for Mastodon stateside for the time being. Or if you absolutely have to, Mmm Hop.

More alcoholic selections from Motorhead.
