Skull Splitter will make its American debut on tap and wants you to help them celebrate by partying Viking style! 2 events will be held on the east coast – one in Philadelphia at the P.O.P.E. and one in NYC at St. Andrew’s Restaurant and Bar. At each event guests will be some of the first to taste Skull Splitter on tap, but that’s not all! Each event will have a Viking for you to take Instagrams with and the most outrageous one, using the hashtag #skullsplitter, will be winning a Skull Splitter prize pack.
“Skull Splitter takes its name from the nickname of Torfinn Hausakljuv, who served as earl of Orkney, Scotland around 950 A.D. Like its namesake, the beer is powerful and strong, with a high ABV (8.5%) and rich, fruity, wine-like complexity on the palate, including fresh and dried fruits, warm exotic spices and light citrus notes. “
This will definitely be a fun hashtag to follow!

Kentucky’s own West Sixth Brewing has announced their intentions to can a second of their beers. Their Deliberation Amber, under its new name West Sixth Amber, will be available in cans at both of their locations in just 3-4 weeks. West Sixth is proud to be the only brewery in Kentucky to can their beer.

“After trying CocoaJoe’s brewing Cocoa, I thought it would be an interesting take on an old brewing technique. Using cocoa in beer is nothing new to brewers, but it is traditionally added to a heavy stout or roasty porter in the form of chocolate. The brewing cocoa is more closely linked to the source of the flavor, and adds a subtle complexity to a more medium bodied brew such as an amber.” ~ Eli Kolodny, Odell Brewing Company’s Quality Control Manager and brewer of CocoaJoe Amber.
CocoaJoe Amber has been released in small test batches at Odell’s tasting room for now, and will be launched in an experimental variety pack if well-received.
Style: Amber Arrival: January 2013 Availability: on tap
The next experiment in DuClaw’s eXile series has escaped the lab and landed in their brewpubs!
“This 6.4% ABV Wit is medium-bodied and pale orange in color with a persistent, rocky, white head. Effervescent citrus flavors and aromas dominate the palate, while the addition of coriander hand smoked with Retribution Bourbon Oak infuses the beer with subtle hints of smoke, creating a contrast and depth of flavor that takes the traditional Wit to a new dimension.”
For right now it will only be available on tap, but I would expect to see bottles in the coming months much like the rest of the eXile series.
Style: Wit Arrival: January 2013 Availability: on tap

We at The Bruery regret to announce that we will be closing the doors on Provisions, our retail shop & tasting area in Old Towne Orange. Provisions has been an important part of our company, spawned by our passion for craft beer and the opportunity to introduce others to it. Our decision to shut the doors did not come easy. However, after examining our growing business, increased production capacity, barrel aging efforts, enhanced Tasting Room, and growing membership societies, it became apparent that Provisions is not the best use of our limited resources. We believe that this change will help us focus our efforts on brewing and distributing the best and most creative beer we can possibly brew to provide our customers with the best craft beer experience they can find. We encourage you to read some words on the closing from The Bruery’s Founder & CEO, Patrick Rue, posted at www.thebruery.com/farewellprovisions
The entire Provisions’ stock of craft beers, wines, cheeses, charcuterie and other artisanal products will be discounted this week. Reserve Society and Hoarder’s Society members will receive 30% off beginning Tuesday, January 8th. The same discount will be available to the general public beginning Thursday, January 10th. We will stop food service effective today, January 8th, and retail service will stop on Sunday, January 13th. Beer from The Bruery will not be included in this sale, but will continue to be available at our Tasting Room, in Placentia.
We will continue to serve you and Orange County through our Tasting Room, which is adjacent to our production facility in Placentia. The Tasting Room has recently undergone renovations and now comfortably seats nearly 100 people and offers up to 40 different beers on draft, along with our full selection of bottled beer — all hand crafted by The Bruery. The Tasting Room will also carry a full line of Bruery merchandise. With easy access off the 57 freeway, abundant parking, and fine view of our newly expanded production facility, the Tasting Room will offer a unique setting to enjoy our one-of-a-kind beers.
We owe a heartfelt apology to our many customers who frequented Provisions and made it their local hangout and beer shop. We thank you for your nearly three years of support as we’ve enjoyed serving you and sharing so many craft beers, wines, cheeses and other delicacies. We hope to see you picking up where you left off – with a flight of beer, at our Tasting Room in Placentia, watching us brew.
