The canning craze isn’t just a beer thing – cider makers are taking note as well. Introducing Vander Mill’s canned hard ciders, available in May 2013 in Michigan and the greater Chicago area.
The fastest growing craft brewery has announced plans to become even bigger. Lagunitas Brewing has been working on a second location in Chicago for a few years now, and says via Twitter that this new location will be doing twice as much as they initially expected. Once this second location is complete Lagunitas will be producing 2.4 million barrels making them the second largest craft brewery just behind Sam Adams/Boston Beer Company (in terms of brewing capacity). According to statistics presented this week at CBC, Lagunitas is the fastest growing brewery so far this year based on sales figures.
When it comes to major presences in the craft beer community, no one name is more recognizable and revered as Michael Jackson. With a 30+ year carrer including 10 published books and a tv show, Michael Jackson was without a doubt the biggest presence the beer community has known and dearly missed. Now a documentary is being made about his incredible life told by leading brewers and beer writers including his most recent beer hunting travels.
Homefront IPA to Return, Benefits Operation Homefront
Breweries coming together to help others – it’s a beautiful thing. Since 2011 Homefront IPA has been brewed to raise money and awareness for Operation Homefront with them receiving 100% of the proceeds.. Operation Homefront is a charity that provides emergency assistance to military heroes and their families. This year they are proud to announce that the following breweries will be collaborating on this beer:
Center of the Universe Brewing Company, Ashland, VA
Fremont Brewing Company, Seattle, WA
Sly Fox, Pottstown, PA
Cigar City Brewing, Tampa, FL
Perennial Artisan Ales, St. Louis, MO
The Phoenix Ale Brewery, Phoenix, AZ
21st Amendment Brewery, San Francisco, CA
Left Hand Brewing Company, Longmont, CO
Stone Brewing Company, Escondido, CA
Oh and did we mention that this IPA will be aged on Louisville Slugger maple bats? Because that’s pretty cool too.
When it comes to the marriage equality debate Bud Light has chosen their side. Following a similar image from the Human Right’s Campaign that spread like wildfire across Facebook, Bud Light added the above image to their page this week which now has 1,897 comments ranging from outrage to proud support. No matter which side of the issue you’re on it’s definitely interesting to see a major company and beer brand take a stance, even if it’s just a picture.
Someone at Hawks headquarters must be paying attention to the stats we’re seeing at CBC this week. The Southeast is the fastest growing craft beer community right now with no signs of stopping.
