This barleywine has been missing in action for a few years now. That has made our bellies sad. Good news for the fans of Victory Old Horizontal, it will return in 2013.
A few years ago, capacity issues prevented Victory from brewing this big, boozy, favorite. They literally have to brew twice as much of Horizontal in order to get half the yield. Fast forward to 2013, the brewery has a new brewery on the way, and more tank space in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Old Horizontal will rise again.
Look for this in 22oz bombers (new!) in November. Cold weather is looking better everyday.
Victory Brewing Companywill place Hop Wallop on hiatus, and tap Dirtwolf Double IPA as its year round replacement. The brewery has been experimenting with whole flower hops, and the time has come to let DirtWolf loose. This new beer will launch Victory’s first time shipping 12oz 4 packs.
With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% ABV brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties.

Flying Dog Brewery (Frederick, MD) may have made a misstep in their social media campaign kickoff yesterday. The brewery kicked off a new campaign called “Swallow the Truth” coinciding with their new “The Truth” imperial IPA. It all started with this image posted above – “Not brewed at our Asheville brewery…because we don’t have one.”
That’s the problem with digital sarcasm. It can be easily overlooked. We’re pretty sure it was a simple joke about the fact that so many breweries are building in Asheville/North Carolina. Within seconds of posting this art, the pushback started. Forcing a tongue-in-check reply on their Facebook page. Seems like even beer drinkers get offended fairly easily.
We are releasing a new Imperial IPA called The Truth.
What appealed to us about this concept of the truth is that as a society, we are constantly blasted with hype, lies, and exaggerations. And we’re expected to swallow it as the truth. What we learned today is that an inarguable truth was reacted to in very subjective ways.
In one simple statement, we managed to offend the following: A. North Carolina beer B. Breweries already in, moving to, or expanding to North Carolina C. The entire state of North Carolina D. And probably people who live in South Carolina, but work in North Carolina
If you were offended by Flying Dog today and are not included in the list above, please let us know.
People Want Beer! Duck Duck Gooze Sales Crash Server
Today, tickets to purchase Lost Abbey’s Duck Duck Goose were supposed to go on sale. That didn’t go so well. The instant the link went live, the server crashed. Hard. Of course, that annoyed the fans clamoring for the brew. As you can see, they are working on a solution, and no tickets have been sold yet.
Nexternal eCommerce, the online sales solution, was unable to handle the traffic. Both Lost Abbey and Nexternal are working on a fix.
In the meantime, do you see this happening more and more in the craft beer industry? Ticket sales not going well, servers crashing? What do you see as a viable tech solution?
