More Heretic Bottles

Heretic Brewing (Pittsburg, CA) will be bottling Evil Twin, alongside Evil Cousin.   Heretic open their doors this year, and these are the first bottles by the young brewer.

About Evil Twin:

This blood-red ale may not be what you might expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Style: American Strong Ale

Taste Expectations:  A malt forward beer, with caramel, fruit & citrus hop flavors.

Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft.
Bottle Arrival: TBA

6.8% ABV

Bottle Tree Brewing Adding “Red”

Bottle Tree Brewing (Tryon, NC) has but one offering at the moment – Bottle Tree Blonde.  The brewery (contracted through Thomas Creek) looks to be adding a 2nd beer soon – Red.

What is Bottle Tree?   The name is derived from a dying southern tradition:

The bottle tree, once a common sight in the South, dates back to 9th century Congo where hanging handblown glass was a talisman against evil.  Branches were stripped of foliage, then covered with colorful glass bottles.  Mesmerized by the color play of sunlight, evil spirits were lured and ensnared, their moans heard whistling on the breeze…

Bottle Tree Brewing is distributed in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Arkansas, and D.C.

Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: TBA

7.5% ABV

You Decide: Santo X or Santo Y?

The brewing process is finicky and sometimes it just doesn’t work out.  Just ask St. Arnold Brewing Company who just dumped 11,000 gallons of Santo down the drain because it was not up to their standards.  Many wanted to grab a bucket and go take it off of their hands, but instead of letting you do that, St. Arnold has proposed an alternative.

Head down to their tour on Monday night from 6pm — 8pm and you will get to sample two freshly brewed editions of Santo: X&Y.  You will receive a ballot to vote and help select the winner!

The difference?  St. Arnold brewed a new batch and split it in to two tanks.  They then pitched it with two different yeasts.  They’re happy with the results, but want your input to decide which is better.

Trinity Bretta, Turtle, & More

Trinity Brewing is releasing a few new beers as we transition into fall.

Libidinous – Returned to the taps as a Saison rather than a lager this year on Sept. 2. This San hopped Belgian ale is crafted with heather tips, juniper berries, chai, and saffron which creates a profile reminiscent of an ancient Gruit.

Bretta Beer – Today, this Australian influenced beer returns to the taps. This hybrid “Berliner Wit” combines the malt bill of a Wit bier, Kiwis, Brettanomyces, and Lactobacillus with a delicate hand to create a refreshing and lightly acidic adult beverage.

Peche Noir – Black Saison aged on Colorado peaches, September 16th.  This creation highlights dark aged malt flavors of fig, a noticeable pepper, and is balanced by somewhat of an estery peach presence.

Brain of the Turtle arrives October 2nd.  750ml bottles for this brew.   Aged on almonds, cherry skins, coffee, and oak barrels

Troegs Flood Update

Troeg’s new Hershey, PA location is under threat of flood waters.  John Trogner just mentioned this about state of affairs:

Our Hershey brewery is in great shape and we hope to be brewing soon” “T1 is closed in preparation of flooding and we are expected to remain closed through the weekend.  All access to brewery is under water so all roads are closed. For the past 24 hours we have removed 4 trailer loads of materials, ingredients and elevated everything remaining. So in the meantime all the millions of yeast cells are still happily fermenting and we will be hunkering down with a bottle of Perpetual IPA!
