Barrel aged weasel poop. But I’m sure, tasty barrel poop. The civet or this weasel eats coffee berries, and beans that come out (from the backside of the animal) is among the best coffee on the planet. Over $100 a pound. The regular edition of Beer Geek Brunch is one of the best in the Beer Geek series. Now Mikkeller is aging it in cognac barrels.
This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from the droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings from Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and even stronger aroma.
Style: Imperial Oatmeal Stout

Arrival: Winter, 2011

Grimm Brothers (Loveland, CO) is expanding their bottling with the addition of Little Red Cap and Fearless Youth. Both beers are year round offerings. The brewery’s beers are based around a fable theme, with some of the best labels I’ve seen in a long time.
Fearless Youth, Munich Dunkel Lager 5.2% ABV
Once upon a time in the land of Bavaria, a darkness fell upon the beer in the town of Munich. But have no fear — this darkness was born of a toasted malt that produces a bready chocolate flavor. This full-bodied brew is now known as a Munich Dunkel. Our dunkel is made with just enough hoppy bitterness to scare away any overt sweetness. Then it is carefully lagered to produce a cleanness that no one will shudder at
Little Red Cap, Altbier 5.2% ABV
Once upon a time in the ancient city of Düsseldorf, monks perfected a style of brewing that used the top-fermenting yeast of an ale and the cold conditioning of a lager. The result was a clean-tasting, full-bodied ale, known as altbier, At Grimm Brothers, we’ve crafted our own version of an altbier from specialty malts and the finest European and American hops. Like its namesake, Little Red Cap is copper-colored and alluringly sweet. But don’t be fooled — there’s some sass hidden under that hood. Big bad wolves beware!
Harpoon Brewing’s 100 Barrel Series continues with #40 – Black IPA. The appearance of this edition is very close to the soon to be released #39 Spruce Tip, coming in November 2011.
Ample amounts of Ahtanum hops provide the fruity aroma on top of the earthy, spicy bitterness of this dark IPA.
Availability: 22oz bombers (capped & foiled), Draft
Arrival: Estimated Late December -January, 2012
7% ABV, 67 IBUS
Via CraftBeer Business Daily, Garrett Oliver sees a taste change in the drinker…
Garrett Oliver says it means craft’s unprecedented arrival into the mainstream: “not causatory, but a harbinger of that,” and not terribly different from how people’s palates shifted toward salsa from ketchup in the 1990s, seemingly overnight. “Ketchup had been the main condiment in the United States, and one day, suddenly, salsa takes over and nobody really notices,” Garrett says. “The world kind of moves along and things get spicier. It’s kind of the way it is with craft beer. When you go to your average deli in Williamsburg, and you see 200 beers in there; 15 years ago that would have been a specialty shop.“
Perhaps there is a correlation to losses experienced by big beer. RE: Beers People Aren’t Drinking…
