Anheuser-Busch Testing Lime-A-Rita

Bud Light Lime-A-RitaAnheuser-Busch is currently in the early stages of testing  a variant of Bud Light Lime dubbed – Lime-A-Rita.  Cans of “Test Beer L” have recently been circulated within the company according to a local brewery rep.

From what I gather, Lime-A-Rita is an attempt to grow/appeal to a growing market of alco-pop drinkers (example FourLoko.)  Initial interpretations from those who have tasted it say the flavor is pretty close to an actual margarita. (Salt not included.)

No launch date has been announced.

Terrapin To Release Special Anniversary Ale

Terrapin Anniversary AleTerrapin Beer Co celebrates 10 years in April, 2012.  As promised by the brewery, the label contains a mathematical equation.  The guy you see there is Leonard Euler, and his equation,  Euler’s Identity.   Many mathematically inclined tout his identity equation as one of the most beautiful in the world.  Beautiful?  Totally.  Euler’s Identity combines 5 math constants, and 3 arithmetic operations.  It’s pretty fascinating if you’re into that kind of thing.  (Don’t worry, you don’t have to do the math as you can see.)

Here’s the beer equation: Chouffe yeast, coriander, 2 types of orange peel, chamomile, nelson sauvin hops.  You’ll see it around Terrapin’s Carnival time.

Style:
Hops: Nelson Sauvin
Availability: 22 oz bombers
Arrival:

9.969% ABV

The quote on the label is actually by Benjamin Pierce, speaking about Euler’s Identity.   The actually equation looks like this.  The gif below demonstrates the equation.

It is absolutely paradoxical; we cannot understand it, and we don’t know what it means, but we have proved it, and therefore we know it must be the truth.

New Belgium’s $8 Mil Canning Line Up & Running

New Belgium Brewing announced today that their new 16,000 square foot canning line is up and running.  The new line comes at a cost of $8 million.

At 360 cans per minute, the new line can handle 12 oz cans, and 16 oz “tallboys.”  That’s an increase of 6x the original rate (at 6o cans a minute.)  Fat Tire & Ranger are now available in tallboys, with  Shift Pale Lager coming shortly after.  The brewery will spend $1 million on that launch in April.

“People are loving craft beer in a can so we decided to increase production to keep up with demand,” said Bryan Simpson, New Belgium spokesperson. “We first rolled out cans in 2008 as an outdoor-friendly, light for transport and readily recyclable vessel. Our fans enjoy that cans can travel to places where glass is not an option and now tallboys can come along, too.”

In a brewery visit back in September, it was mentioned that New Belgium markets that don’t currently get NB cans can expect them after the installation of this line.  [PressRelease]

The Story of Purim

The Book of Esther begins with a six month (180 day) drinking feast given by King Ahasuerus, for the army of Persia and Media, for the civil servants and princes in the 127 provinces of his kingdom, at the conclusion of which a seven day drinking feast for the inhabitants of Shushan, rich and poor with a separate drinking feast for the women organised by the Queen Vashti in the pavilion of the Royal courtyard.

At this feast Ahasuerus gets thoroughly drunk and orders his wife Vashti to display her beauty before the people and nobles wearing her royal crown. She refuses, and Ahasuerus decides to remove her from her post. He then orders all young women to be presented to him, so he can choose a new queen to replace Vashti. One of these is Esther, who was orphaned at a young age and was being fostered by her cousin Mordecai. She finds favor in the king’s eyes, and is made his new wife. Esther does not reveal that she is Jewish
