AB InBev to acquire Tripel Karmeliet and Kwak

You may have heard rumors about Heineken pursuing a purchase of the Belgian brewery Bosteels, most well known for Tripel Karmeliet and Kwak beers. As a surprise twist, AB InBev swept in for the purchase estimated at over €200 million (about $225 million).

This is especially surprising considering AB InBev is still in the middle of their $105.49 billion acquisition of SABMiller.

Duvel Moortgat was reportedly interested in the race to purchase alongside Heineken, however AB InBev won the race, increasing their ever reaching influence in the Belgian market.

Other recent brewery acquisitions by AB InBev in the craft brewery sector include Italy’s Birra del Borgo, Virginia based Devils Backbone, and Colorado based Breckenridge Brewery.
