Blue Moon’s Grape Scott! Yet Another Rename?

Blue Moon Brewing Company’s Grape Scott! is joining the brewery’s Graffitti Series. (See label, it makes sense.)

However, it is important to note that it may indeed be a rename of a renamed beer. Vintage Blonde Ale was renamed (last year?) to Golden Knot (in 750ml bottles) with the following description:

Golden Knot* is crafted with the juice of Chardonnay grapes and 100% wheat, intertwining a touch of tartness with apple and kiwi notes. This ale ties nicely with any food you might otherwise pair with white wine.

Grape Scott! carries the description: Wheat Ale with Chardonnay grapes. Blue Moon hasn’t clarified the different offerings for Beer Street Journal yet. In the meantime, your call.

Style: Wheat Ale (w/ Chardonnay Grapes)
Availability: 22oz Bottles

Bell’s Oberon Returns. Cans Soon.

It may not feel like it, but warmer weather is close. It has to be right?

Bell’s Brewery has released Oberon again for 2014 this week. Oberon signals the hope of warmer weather, porch drinking, and baseball tailgating.

“With a winter like this one, people are definitely ready to say goodbye to gloves and scarves. Raising that first Oberon is a tradition, something we all look forward to,” said Laura Bell, Bell’s Vice President.

Bell’s Oberon is one of the brewery’s most popular beers, a wheat ale with Bell’s house yeast. Oberon Release Day was so popular last year, that a pint was poured every 15 seconds for 15 hours.

Bell’s Oberon 2014 is available in 12oz bottles, 16oz cans (Late April), mini kegs, and of course – draft.

Style: American Wheat Ale
Availability: 12oz Bottles, 16oz Cans, Mini Kegs, Draft. Summer seasonal

Coney Island Boasts New Watermelon Wheat Offering

Shmaltz Brewing Company separated and sold off the Coney Island brand in 2013. The brand was reformulated into a brewing company, by Alchemy and Science, a Boston Beer division. Distribution scaled back to the state of New York and the nearby area. In addition, the artwork has been overhauled, and new beers promised.

One of the first new offerings under the new Coney Island Brewing Co brand name will be Tunnel of Love Watermelon Wheat. The distribution will not be as wide as 21st Amendment’s Watermelon Wheat. That summer offering is still king.

Like a gentle summer breeze, the scent of watermelon cools your senses before a sweet first sip opens to a rich, full-bodied beer. A crisp, slightly fruity finish rounds out this lovely ride.

Look for this summer seasonal in 12oz bottles.

Style: Wheat Beer (w/ Watermelon)
Availability: 12oz Bottles

“This american wheat is brewed with Sorachi Ace hops and nearly 6 pounds of fresh lemongrass in each 15 barrel batch. The Sorachi Ace hop, which originated out of Japan, has a very unique flavor that we believe complements the lemongrass perfectly.  It’s a craft beer drinker’s wheat.”

West Sixth’s other cans include IPA, Amber, and Christmas Ale.

Breckenridge Launching Sessionable “Ophelia”

Looks like spring will start in January for Breckenridge. The brewery plans on kicking off the new year with a sessionable seasonal, Ophelia.

The beer is a hoppy wheat ale that weighs in a 5% ABV.

Ophelia hits the palate with a slightly aggressive hoppiness that’s balanced with light, fruit flavors.  Subtle hints of mango, papaya, and guava round out the aroma of Mosaic and Palisade hops. Malted white wheat lends the fullness people expect in a craft beer, even a lighter one.

Breckenridge Ophelia will be available from January to April, 2014.

Style: Wheat Beer
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft
Arrival: January, 2014
