A Prickly Pear Shiner

Shiner Prickly PearThe folks at Spoetzel Brewery have a new Shiner on the way – Prickly Pear.  A  no brainer of a locally sourced ingredient, when considering the Texas landscape.  Prickly is the #3 in the Brewer’s Pride Series.

This small batch brew is the third our Limited Edition Brewer’s Pride Craft Brew Series.  A combination of Citra and U.S. Golding hops gives this refreshing lager its citrus flavor and floral aroma. The brew’s signature tartness comes from the fruit of the prickly pear, a cactus native to our brewery’s landscape that’s hearty, rugged and unmistakably unique –qualities we surely appreciate.

Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale (2012)

Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale (2012)Atlantic Brewing’s new label for Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale.  Updated in 2012.

A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

Abita Strawberry 2012 On Shelves

There is a large fan base for this beer, so those who been waiting on it, go get it.  Abita’s Strawberry Harvest Lager is on the shelves.  The lager is brewed with copious amounts of fresh strawberries.  The beer was first released in 2006 and was an instant hit.    The brewery tells me in 2012 they will ship (or are shipping) 200,000 cases of Strawberry Harvest Lager this year to over 40 states.  The beer always sells out.

Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their swee This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness. It is wonderful with desserts or lighter fares such as salads and pastas. Fresh cheeses such as Burrata, chevre, Creszenza, mozzarella or Teleme pair well with Strawberry Harvest.

Dogfish Head Aprihop Now Shipping

Welcome to March!  Dogfish Head’s Aprihop is now shipping.  The fruity IPA is headed to your glass now, helping you get a little closer to Spring.  Here’s a little description from the brewery.

Aprihop is our fruit beer for hopheads!

It is an American IPA brewed with Pilsner and Cystal malts massively hopped in in the continuous fashion. The flavor is complimented by the addition of Apricots. After fermentation the beer is dry hopped with irresponsible amounts of Amarillo hops. The beer is hoppy in the aroma with the apricots playing a supporting complimentary role. The flavor is rich with late hop flavors and it’s bitterness is tempered by just the right amount of malt sweetness and fruity undertones from the apricots.  This is one of our most popular seasonal beers and we’ve been brewing it each spring for quite a while now. We release the beer each March and you should find it on the shelves through May.

Style: American IPA (w/ Apricots)
Hops:  Amarillo
Malts:  Crystal, Pilsner

Availability:  March — May.  12 oz bottles, Draft.

7% ABV

Fun Fact: Aprihop was first brewed in 1997
