Jester King’s 2nd Sour. A Unique Process

Jester King Brewery (Texas) is soon to release their second barrel aged sour- Omniscience & Proselytism. Let’s tackle the big words first. Omniscience means “knowing it all” and Proselytism “is the act of converting one to another religion or opinion.” Perhaps this all knowing beer is meant to convert those unknowing to the sour/wild side.

O & P has all Texas fruit, namely strawberries from Fredericksburg, Texas. The fruit was added in April, then refermented in oak ever since. This is important. Jester King wants the strawberries to come in contact with the microorganisms to break down sugars and create new flavors and compounds. These Texas organisms are unique to the brewery and surrounding area. You can’t recreate this beer anywhere else.

Only about 500 bottles of this beer will be made available.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Strawberries)
Availability: 500 ml bottles
Arrival: 10/27/13

5% ABV

Goose Island’s “Gillian” Set To Return

Goose Island Gillian

By all best estimates, 2010 was the last time the world saw Goose Island Gillian. This farmhouse ale is brewed with strawberries, white pepper, and honey, then aged in wine barrels. You might know Gillian by another name – Scully. Inspired by amuse bouche, and created to be a “harmonious blend of mouth amusement.” We’re told we should see this mouth pleaser in late 2013.

Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale with White Pepper, Strawberry, and Honey. Inspired by an amuse bouche often prepared by the wife of one of our brewers, Scully brings white pepper, strawberry, and honey to a harmonious blend of “mouth amusement”. The ingredients are added at different stages to a Saison, and fermented with a normal Belgian yeast as well as a Champagne yeast. One of our favorite brews of the past year with many levels of complexity and character.

Style: Saison (w/ Strawberries, White Pepper, Honey. Wine Barrel Aged)
Availability: 765 ml bottles
Arrival: Late 2013

9.1% ABV

Avondale Brewing (Birmingham, AL) is gearing up for bottles. Here is another that lies ahead – Strawberry Kolsch, a tap room favorite.

This Kolsch Style Ale is brewed with delicious strawberries. It is a German style ale that has flavor and aroma profiles much like a lager or a pilsner. The Strawberry Kolsch Ale is our most refreshing and sessionable brew, nicely balanced with low hop bitterness and a subtle malt backbone with fruity undertones. This beer has a medium body, a fizzy head and a slightly cloudy straw yellow hue. The Strawberry Kolsch Ale is low in alcohol, bursting with flavor and extremely refreshing which makes this brew perfect for summer.

Arrival: TBA (Bottles)

4.6% ABV
